Voicemail playback problem

I had the same problem and it turned out to be some error on the sprint side of things and was disconnected from getting Visual Voicemail, all I had to do was:

click on VM app
record a message
send to activate@vm.sprint.com

and I started getting all my vm back.

good luck!!

We tried several approaches, including those above. No SINGLE step did it all. Here's the step-by-step that fixed the issue. Yeah, it's a pain, but it's better than searching the web for all the right solutions.

1. Go to Home Screen > Menu Button > Settings > Manage Applications
2. Under "ALL" tap the Voicemail app, Force Stop, then Clear Data
3. Reboot the phone.

What DIDN'T work:
1. uninstalling updates
2. clearing data (alone)
3. changing "skip passcode" option
4. rebooting (alone)

Thanks for all the help, you guided us in the right direction.

It says I have a message but when I go to the voicemail app and try to play the message I get a pop up that says unable to play message, yet when I go to my dialer and go to my voicemail through there I can play it. Any idea what is wrong?

Thanks

I too recently started having said issue after the past Android update.
I've tried clearing cache, data, rebooting etc. Still gives same of can't play message pop-up. Irritating. Now ive lost some very precious VM from my deceased father. The last of very minimal "I Love You kid". I'm so heart broken. I played that message every day for the last 2 years. Now I can't hear it anymore. Absolutely nothing works to fix. Even a hard reboot or factory restore. And my calls go directly to VM so can't use my new Samsung S20 5G as an actual phone now. Go figure.

Welcome to Android Central! You responded in a 12 year old thread for a really ancient phone, so you might want to create a new thread for your question in the S20 forum.:)
