voicemail turns screen black

[AC Question]

when i dial my verizon voice mail now the screen turns black and i am unable to enter my pass code. The screen comes back on when the recording and phone call ends

Welcome to Android Central! What phone are you using? Make sure you're not activating the proximity sensor after dialing--this can happen if anything is near the sensor (which is located right near the earpiece). So if your finger is there, or an ill-fitting case sits over the area, the phone will think it's up against your ear, and black out the screen to prevent accidental button presses.
