Hi, just came over to Android from iPhone, and i'm having a really silly problem. How do I setup voicemail on my Captivate?

Not talking about visual voicemail (I know that I need something like Google Voice to have it), I mean just regular voicemail with a customized greeting. When I receive a call my phone just rings and never goes to voicemail.

dial 611: there are voicemail setup options there

Coming from iPhone, you probably never had a regular voice mail box setup with AT&T, since iPhone uses a visual voice mail type application.

If you came from the iPhone, AT&T may have to enable standard voicemail for you. I had that issue the first day as well. I had to call them and they removed the iPhone voicemail and replaced it with standard voicemail on my account.

Same thing for me - I had VV setup on my Blackberry and I had to talk to a Rep to get standard voicemail put back on my account. No cost, and it took 5 minutes - pretty painless...

Just a heads up... if you move an upgrade on your voice plan (like I did), then you may have to re-set up the voice mail for the phones you moved around.

Another solution (since you have a device that supports it now) is to use Google Voice for your voice mail. I was able to set it up and get it working rather quickly. I prefer it what I had with the iPhone. My wife is jealous and now wants to know why Apple doesn't have a Google Voice app.
