Volume Control Not Working on Lock Screen

Hi Everyone,

I have a problem with my new S9+. While on lock screen, the volume keys of my phone have no effect. As a result I cannot turn up or down the ringer volume. The effect is the same whether my phone is "asleep" or is "awaken" while still locked.

I know this is something that should be standard since it used to work on all my previous Android phones.

Weirdly (?) enough, if my bluetooth headphones are connected and I'm playing music, then the volume keys do control the volume.

Would really appreciate your input on this as I was not able to fix it or find threads discussing this issue.

Thanks a lot!

If this helps:
  • Phone = S9+ ; SM-G965W
  • Latest software update (Feb. 1st) = G965WVLS3CSAG
  • Android version 9
  • One UI version 1.0

yes volume keys do not do anything when screen is locked.
but i think this is something new in pie or one ui and not a bug.

That's Android, though, not Samsung. The Pixels work the same way.

WOW... I'm so surprised lol. I can't believe this isn't a bug / isn't a default setting. Very strange and different UX than what Android has gotten me used to (it works that way on my OnePlus and my Nexus 6P).

Has anyone found a way to map the volume keys to work while on lock screen? (maybe with a third party app like the one to remap the Bixby button)

Thanks!!
