Since update my notifications and system sounds do not stay silent when I set them.

Check in volume settings I think there is a box you can check to unlink media and volume

If you hit the volume button up or down look at the top right hand and see a clockwork wheel or settings button that will help adjust.

Another option is to go to Settings > Sound > look for the link button and press it.
