Any ideas? Does nothing at all now on my LG G5. Volume up increases the volume, volume down nothing happens. I tried rebooting. I'm not sure if its a software item, or just problem with phone. I have not dropped it or anything.
Try booting into Safe Mode: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-25356. If it persists in Safe Mode, the button itself has most likely failed. Bring it back to the store to see if you can get a quick replacement; otherwise, contact LG for warranty repair/replacement.
I've had this issue for most of the life of the phone. Mine appears to be a software issue as I can get it working again by going to the various Sound settings and switching them on and off while clicking the volume down button. When it starts working during that it tends to work for a day or so then reverts back. Restarting the phone does nothing.

Simple solution worked for me.
Did power off the phone.
Removed battery.
Waited for 60 sec.
Reinserted the battery.
Restarted the phone & the volume button was functional well.
I've had a similar situation with one of the volume buttons on my LG G3 (that's on-going). Sometimes a restart or a re-loading of the app in question (ie, YouTube) helps; or even fiddling with your volume settings.
