Yep Google has REALLY over thought the settings in the last couple of versions of Android. They've complicated things so much that unfortunately I know many people they've chased away.
Most folks just want a good working phone that's easy to set up and use. Google is moving more and more away from that..... and it's not for the better.
When I set up a new Android phone I leave everything at default except for some privacy settings, because I have a life to live, and don't have the ridiculous amounts of free time Android requires to figure out how to change settings from one Android version to the next. IMO if anything's going to be the downfall of Android, it'll be the over the top complicated settings they seem to love so much.
Too bad they're not polling more everyday non-techie users, because they'd find out the majority don't like overly confusing phones, they just want an easy to use quality phone at a good price. Android phones sell well because you can get 2 of those things when you buy them..... but easy to use isn't one of them.
