After the 4.3 update I can't adjust media playback volume with the volume rocker. I have to hit the rocker with the screen on, hit the gear symbol and manually slide the media volume to change the audio. Is this just me? Is there a fix?

Have you done a Factory Reset? If you haven't, that's the first place to start. And be sure to clear the system cache in Recovery mode while you're at it.
