I notice the headphone volume is pretty low.is there anyway to increase the volume when I use music streaming apps?
I tried some of the apps in the play store but they proved useless.

Spotify has an equalizer in settings. Have you tried playing with that yet?

It can vary between headphones. Maybe try a different pair and see if they sound better.

It's not a streaming app, but if you want to play locally stored music, PowerAmp has some very in depth volume and EQ settings. Probably my favorite Android app of all time

I got some headphones from Amazon that came with a small rechargeable battery-powered amplifier (the fiio E6) and it definitely boosts the sound up. (The headphones are excellent too...) You can get the amplifier alone for about $30.
