VPN auto-connect when on specific wifi

Is there a way to have my S21 connect to a VPN only when I connect to specific wifi networks?

I'm using Windscribe VPN.

In order for this to work, the Windscribe VPN App would have to allow tasker to access the intent. As far as I can find, Windscribe does not.

I know that tasker works with both OpenVPN and Wireguard, as I currently use Wireguard and used to use Open VPN to connect to my home network automatically when I disconnect from my home Wifi. But those are the only two that I am aware of that it actually does work with.

Ah, thanks for that detailed info! Do you know if other similar apps like IFTTT or Macrodroid might be worth trying?

I think it is specifically permission related. The app itself (Windscribe) has to allow access to that. VPN is considered one of those highly sensitive connections on your phone. So, many (most?) apps take the choice out of the hands of the user.

You might be able to use the autoinput program in tasker to do the action for you as a last resort. I used to use that for day/night mode when it was wonky with android auto. It is a bit messier, and might require you to unlock your screen. But, you could give that a try if you cannot find anything else.
