Most people use VR to experience a roller coaster, virtually. I can't imagine what Cedar Fair has planned to use VR ON a real roller coaster.

Toledo Blade

Probably add augmented reality? Would be cool to be on a roller coaster AND see flames, falling rocks, lava, space ships, explosions, and stuff! And you can't replicate that sinking gut feeling with pure VR, so that's where the actual ride comes in.

This is why I want the rift.. Cuz they have all this already :/

Well, with a rift you would have to plug the HMD into a laptop. With the Gear VR you are all self contained.

I wonder what VR platform they will use on a roller coaster.

Maybe, but, I've always thought that once you go "augmented reality" you are not in virtual reality anymore.

I kinda see the progression as:
1. Reality
2. AR - Augmented Reality
3. VR - Virtual Reality

With AR, you are still in reality but there are some virtual things there with you.

With VR, reality (visually) is gone. Everything is virtual.

I guess we'll see soon as most amusement parks close within a month or two.

Well, since this thing doesn't really have an external camera, the actual rollercoaster is just serving as the physical element for you to feel the speed, the ups and downs, the wind... but all the images are actually on the VR device. So it is VR. Kinda like those 3D simulator cars with hydraulics but less lame.

You would think there would be lots of things for this VR by now.

I had the oculus rift dev kit 2. No joke if you see the screen shredding take off these VR devices you will be sick all night not fun.

Yeah the Rollercoaster video on one of the video apps made me nauseous in about 3 seconds.
