Sorry for the probably noobish question, but I don't see it anywhere, and in the threads where people have asked, I didn't see an answer....

I'm looking at rooting my One, and all the threads say AT&T, T-Mobile, unlocked, dev, etc. Do these procedures work for VZW phones? And how do I know if I have a Developer or unlocked phone?

Thanks

I'm not sure about dev, but to find out if your phone is unlocked, just put a sim from a different carrier in it and see what happens. If it allows you to make calls and everything it's unlocked, if it's not unlocked it will ask for an unlock code or say non supported sim or something of that nature. Hope this helps a little.

that's what I figured unlocked meant.. I'm sure it's not since it's only a few months old. Don't they unlock them after the contract runs out? (If you ask them to)

anyway, my more important question is will it work on VZW?

unlocked can also mean unlocked bootloader if your planning on rooting and installing custom roms with a custom recovery. At the XDA forum there is a ton of information available if you search the different sections. But, the thing is over there , if you get into trouble they don't help as much as they do here , they tell you to search and read then read some more. The link Verizon HTC One - xda-developers. You probably can find in there guides and information on unlocking and rooting if thats your intentions plus custom roms for your enjoyment. I don't go to that forum and read as mine is ATT and the diffenent carriers are different on mods

There is a lot info. over at XDA but you need to be willing to read and search. No one wants to hold anyones hand. If you are going to root your phone you need to read up on what you are about to do and learn how to do it instead of doing it and then asking how to fix it. Not everyone over there is like that. I am a Recognized Contributor over there and i help out in any way i can. I even stop in here to help out.
