VZW update or Dialer update has made phone go rogue!

So I think about 2 weeks ago there was a new software update from Verizon..downloaded it, no issues. Supposedly this was the October security update

Then Verizon pushed another update OTA which I believe people were saying was the November update. I thought everything was still good.

THEN on Thursday I noticed that when I went to make a phone call I had an orange symbol in the upper right, so I clicked it and it was alerting me that there was a new version of the Phone/Dialer app. I assume this is a Samsung experience push.

Then all hell broke lose. Ever since--my phone has relinquished control of the virtual home/back bar at the bottom and puts everything in full screen eventhough i dont have it set that way. and if I uncheck the apps to revert back to not running in full screen mode, I keep having a "click here to make full screen" type prompt floating on the virtual bar at the bottom which is super easy to hit it which makes the app full screen again.

Then tonight I went to show my friends my Samsung VR Headset I just got and that thing has gone rogue too. I'll dock the phone and click the clam shell closed and it plays the dock sound, but doesn't load the Oculus viewer to get me to my virtual world.

What the heck is going on?
Has anyone else experience this brokeness with how things interact since installing any of these updates? I'm not sure which one caused it--i thought things were fine until the Dialer update I manually updated to the new release then started having problems.

So I'm trying to pin point if anyone ran into this debacle, and if so how to undo it? Do I see a factory reset in my future?

negative--same behavior
You inst walled 'something ' then all he'll breaks loose.

I'm on at&T and there was large Noiv 1 security update ~350MB followed by verry small Nov 13th patch.

If I do get info on Phone app on home screen it takes me to Contacts. To get to actual phone app:

Settings Apps System apps from ":" upper right.
There are three. Two small ones that are version 1 0.0 and 3rd that is more like 3.5MB.

Click on storage then cache.

I think you have a rouge program though. Install and run Malwarebytes and see if that turns up anything.

I don't like the Samsung GaGastorel axy apps store. No record I find of updates. Installed apps.

The only time I see orange notification upper right of status bar is new widget and reorder quick access.

This is what About my Note8 shows:

For the reason of this thread (since it seams the dialer update is the issue), I won't be updating my dialer any time soon, if ever. Samsung refuses to be transparent and tell us what EXACTLY is in the update, so I'm not installing it.

right. I don't take important updates that are for Samsung parts and pieces of important things. way too much can go wrong. I don't think I even updated the TW yet for fear of what they might mess up. I have enough update issues as it is.

If you would look around the forums you would see that I already have a whole entire Thread ABOUT THIS and you didn't need to create a new one. https://forums.androidcentral.com/s...new-verizon-updates-bricking-my-note-8-a.html

Anyways... my Note 8 has been a piece of **** ever since that update and it completely bricks on me whenever it wants and nothing has been fixed after a clear partition wipe and factory reset. The crappy thing is this phone was literally perfect before that update... Smh and the worst part is they don't push out another update immediately to fix these issues because you and me aren't the only ones

Nothing like tooting your own horn buddy, but your issue sounds NOTHING LIKE my issue. So calm down before you rip my head off. I did look at all threads that sounded like it could be my issue, and well your issue is something totally different.

It's really not though.. it had a lot of the same problems however I just didn't go on a big huge rant like you did lol, I'm just saying that BOTH of our phones are messed up because of these updates and there wasn't a need for two threads. End of story. And... Sammy is horrible with updates in anyway, always have been lol
