Wait for final bill w/ ETF charges before selling EVO?

I recently cancelled my Sprint contract and am not ducking the ETF charges. What I would like to do is sell my EVO on Ebay and use the money towards my final bill. I want to have the money ready to go before the bill arrives. Will there be any issues for the buyer to activate the EVO once received?

Is there some type of hold placed on the ESN as soon as the contract is cancelled? Or does the hold go into effect after X amount of days of non-payment of the final bill?

Yea, if you do not pay your ETF and final bill the ESN on the EVO will be bad. I do not know anyone that buys phones off of craigslist or ebay without checking the ESN for CDMA phones.

I always buy the cheapest phone possible for a carrier off craigslist or ebay and switch the esn a day before I will be cancelling. I have had issues with Verizon and Sprint locking that device for close to a week or two even after the final bill has been paid.

I hope they don't do that to me. I had a 12 year relationship with Sprint and 3 months ago they dropped me from Gold Premier to Silver Premier status with no explanation. I was so fed up with service at home (even with the airrave) I jumped to ATT. On top of that, my family plan and monthly bill is $20 cheaper. All this time, I was paying $10 extra for 4g when I couldn't even get decent 3g.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I guess I'll have to wait for the final bill and just pay it online right away. If they pull any bs with the esn on the Evo, I'll remind them that a potential customer is waiting to activate and that the longer they take, that's one less customer they have.

Update:

Ok folks, so the final bill was $207 for ETF. I just paid online and will give Sprint customer service a call to check the ESN. Hopefully, it automatically cleared.
