As soon as I hit send in Messages app, the message "waiting for connection" comes up, then soon changes to say sent. It's just a short lag, yet it seems to really annoy me. Anyone else having this glitch?

What messaging app are you using?

Have you checked to see if your messaging app is being put to sleep or deep sleep by the OS? Settings>Battery and device care>Battery>Background usage limits>Sleeping apps / Deep sleeping apps If you find your app here remove it and see if your issue improves.

Are you using a data saver, memory saver or any kind of booster apps?

Does this happen for all messages or just MMS?

Does it happen the second message if you send two in a row?

Using Google Messages app
App not in sleep or deep sleep
No data/memory saver or booster apps
Both SMS and MMS are affected
Happens to both if I send two in a row

I keep trying to get a screenshot of it, but my timing is off each time and it changes back to Sent before I can take a 2nd shot.

Are you using the actual Google messages app or Samsung's skinned version?

I think Samsung because when I go to settings - About, Terms & Privacy - it says messages.android_20220331_00_RC00.phone.samsung_dynamic

I thought I had opted in to the Google Messages beta, and when I look in Play store at the app, it says I'm in the beta program. I thought that meant I had the Google clean version, but I guess I don't?

This confused me also and I never really got to the point where I have the explanation clear in my mind.

It is my understanding that if you have both apps they will appear differently in your app drawer, perhaps with or without the same icon, but separately.

Making one your default vs the other will not cause you to loose any data (SMS or MMS), so I would try making the other one my default for a message or two to see if the issue still happens. Then we can figure out which one is causing the issue, if one presents and the other does not, then we can move forward from there. I just want to know if changing apps has an effect.

I have two Messages apps in my drawer. One is Google Messages and one is Samsung Messages. I do not have a second Google Messages icon. My understanding is that if I have a Galaxy S22, the Google Messages app is always going to be the Samsung-skinned version. I don't know of anyone that's been able to get the unskinned version installed.

Right I haven't looked at my messaging app options because I use Verizon's offering. So I wasn't sure how it would present in the app drawer, this is why I said, I just want to know if changing apps has an effect.

Did you switch to see if it still happened with the other app? Given the answers to my earlier questions the issue being with the app is one of my last thoughts. If you switch apps and it still happens I'm kind of low on ideas.

Samsung Messages and Google Messages icons look almost identical. The Google Messages icon is a message bubble with lines in it in a darker blue surround. Samsung Messages icon is a message bubble with 3 dots showing in it in a slightly lighter colored blue surround.

The nomenclature of the open beta and the Sasmung version is the same (other than the samsung and open beta portion). If you're signed up for beta, you have the same version as the open beta. What I don't know is if there is a stable earlier version number of the Samsung variant.

Google Messages is a system app on the S22 line. It can't be uninstalled, which means you can't have 2 instances of it. You can roll back updates in the app settings and then install (update to) the open beta version instead of the Samsung version, but you can't have both installed at the same time.

It's true the Samsung version can't be uninstalled, but it's easy to get the open beta installed instead of the Samsung version.

You'll neeed an apk fior the open beta version. Many people, myself included, like the APK Mirror site for that.

In the overall phone settings go to Apps and then (Google) Messages.

In the upper right corner click the menu icon and select Uninstall updates.

Install the open beta apk and you'll have the open beta instead of Samsung version of Messages.

You won't get updates via Play anymore. You would have to continue to get updated apks from APK Mirror and update manually.

That can't be - Why would it say Samsung in nomenclature if it's the Google Messages version.

There is a "skinned" Samsung version of the Google Messages app. That is now the default messaging app from the S22 forward. For example, the version I currently have installed is: messages.android_20220405_01_RC00.phone_samsung_dynamic.

The open beta would have "openbeta" where the "samsung" is in my version. The rest of the file name is the same (so same basic open beta Messages version then skinned by Samsung). It does take a day or so for the Samsung version to catch up after the latest open beta is released.

If you go into the app settings and turn off chat features it should fix it.

I was having this problem with 1 other person I messaged. Go into the message like you're gonna text whoever. Top of the screen, right side is 3 vertical dots, press that. Details. Make sure "Send only SMS and MMS messages" is turned on. Solved my problem. Hope it helps you as well.
