Supposedly sometime this month??? Hopefully?? Don't quote me though.
A co-worker of mine downloaded GB on his evo yesterday. His Sales didn't increase. He didn't get to the front of any lines. Members of the opposite sex weren't fawning all over him. It didn't pay off his mortgage. To be honest, he thought it was kind of Meh, and had I not told him it was available , he would not have known.
I think a lot of you are showing somewhat unrealistic expectatations. I'm sure it will be nice, but certianly not life changing. I enjoy going to phone forums when i get a new device, there is always plenty of useful information. There is also a large forum population who seem obsessed with having the best phone ever, so whatever the fotd is, there is going to be something "unacceptable" for that crowd.
I remember in 08 when the BB storm came out under a lot of hype. Some people had reboot issues, not myself however. There was a thread where someone wanted to sue RIM and VZW on the premis that if there was an emergengy, thier families may die because the phone may reboot and they wouldn't be able to call 911 in time..seriously?
I guess my point is the GB wil be nice on this phone, it's a nice phone, but if you are counting the seconds untill it's available, you're probably setting yourself up for a bit of a letdown.
yeah same here, my battery isn't too bad but im really tired of having to make sure its full enough where it won't die when i leave the house. I'm really hoping the aGPS of gingerbread is a major improvement alsoFor me, one of the few reasons I want Gingerbread is all of the improved background optimizations (helping to improve battery usage), along with security fixes.
i'm also excited for NFC capabilities. the paypal app in particular seems useful
Rumor had it that there is and it will be activated with gingerbread.too bad it won't work for the tbolt because there is no NFC chip onboard
Rumor had it that there is and it will be activated with gingerbread.
But you're probably right.
The only expectations I am looking for from GB is for all the problems in the last OTA they pushed out get FIXED.
And by the way, as for your Storm story where people wanted to sue RIM and VZ for the reboot issues because it would prevent them from making emergency calls, IMHO to me that's valid. If more than half of their customers were having random reboot issues then that lawsuit should have come to light, it wasn't like it was only a handful of people either that were having the issue. Since you owned a Blackberry then you know how long that those damn phones take to boot up. Imagine you are in a serious car crash on a secluded road and you or a family member is critically wounded, you grab your cell phone, go to make a call and then bam, it reboots. Now your sitting there waiting for the damn thing to come back up all the while watching someone slip away and you're holding something that is suppose to keep you tied to the outside world but it's useless at the moment. It's not like the old phones where it only takes 6 seconds for it to go from power on to fully usable.
I think it's something going on with these stupid cell towers in certain areas that's causing the reboots. Whenever I get a reboot on my thunderbolt it's only in certain areas all the time. Others without Thunderbolts on VZW are also having random reboots or their phone just simply powers off in the same areas. If that's the case this could be a big reason why HTC and others like RIM can't find the problem with these random reboots.
My, my. What in the world did we do before cellphones?
