Hi guys,

My phone drains a lot of battery while asleep. It could drain as much as 50% over 8 hours just being asleep. It's been happening for about a month now and I still couldn't find the culprit app at all. Any tips on finding it?

Thanks.

If you are rooted, you could try wakelock detector then try wakelock terminator to control the wakelocks.

try booting it into safe mode and see which thrud party app is damaged

Thanks for a heads up. Do you have a step by step guide for this by any chance?

Thanks

No real way to control wakelocks if your not rooted.
All apps will wakeup with pretty much anything you do on your device.

But the problem is one of the apps is causing this awful battery drain.

So I must root?

If you really want to combat the problem, otherwise the only option is use some kind of task killer but the app will just restart eventually and then be killed again and its never really controlled.

Yes I do understand. My point is that if there's any way to find that culprit app without rooting my device?

Regards

Try uninstalling the app you think you downloaded at the time this all started happening. Then see if battery life increases

Been there done that. But nothing seems to work. I do not want to restore my device as it could be a huge hassle.

If you are serious about tracking down this wakelock, which appears to be making a regular call on your system and causing a battery drain, you can try running your phone in Safe Mode for a few hours overnight to see if the wakelock persists. If it does not, then you will know it is down to one of your user apps or settings and not firmware related. See #1.4 of S5 Lollipop Update Problems - Dummies Guide, for how to run in Safe Mode. Once you have ascertained that it is a user app or setting that is causing the problem, you will need to track this down. In the first instance, install, free from the Play Store, GSam Battery Monitor and see if this narrows down what is causing your wakelock and battery drain. Alternatively, through a process of elimination which entails wiping the cache and data for each app and uninstalling that app and checking over a period of a few hours to see if that has cured the wakelock problem. Repeat this until you find the culprit.TOP TIP: Start with, if installed, Facebook, Spotify, Instagram, Path and Amazon. ;)

To really use gsam you need to be rooted, I don't know if it will show wakelocks if your not rooted.

Install system panel from the play store. It can give you a more detailed view of what's happening? . Also, isn't there a non rooted version of wake look detector?

No, there is no non-root version of wakelock detector, just a free version and paid version.
I don't think system panel shows wakelocks, which is what the OP is asking about.
