I have searched the internet n looked through a ton of forums and I cannot find a good guide I.e how to root, what to do after I root, ways to protect the phone.
I am running gingerbread 2.3.4. I was considering getting a new device but figured id give rooting a try to see if it helps out. What I am looking to do is
-overclock the cpu
-remove reinstalled bloatware
-tether my phone to pc to view files from computer.
-use phone as mobile hotpot
-customize the ui

Can someone help mecwith steps or links that can help? Thank everyone

Start there if ur prepared. And by prepared I mean you have rsd lite 4.9 and know how to sbf, then root w z4, then get the team blackhat app to install the 588 two part zip then the rooted 596 zip then you can start doing what you want cuz ul be rooted. Don't worry too much about mistakes cuz the sbf can always be your mulligan. We have it down to a science here lol. Oh and most importantly follow every step to the letter cuz I don't wana be responsible if your phone gets punted in frustration :)

If your unhappy with the way your X performs, look for a different device. Rooting is not going to give it super powers or make it significantly better. It's more like switching from Internet Explorer to Mozilla FireFox. Firefox might run a little faster, but it's still just a browser.

Before you root, try Launcher Pro as a UI. Much smoother than moto's.

+1. Good way to show the other side of the coin. Well said.

If your droid x is on 2.3.4 you can easily root with z4root. That is Froyo despite the 2.3 version number.

The official Gingerbread is 4.5.596
