Want to upgrade to a TB

With Verizon killing the new phone every 14 months on the 2 year plan, and the 1 year plan going away, do any of you feel the need to upgrade now to a Thunderbolt on a one year plan?

This has been bothering me a lot, and I put my Droid X up on Ebay for sale, hoping to get enough to cover most of the costs of a Thunderbolt.

I don't have 4G where I live, but I would like to have a 4G phone for when it does roll out around here.

What are your thoughts?

Well dont buy a 4g phone if you dont have coverage in your area. That would be my first thought. Unless you know for sure they are adding your market in time of the sale of your X on ebay. I have no desire to upgrade to the Tbolt, my X does anything and everything I need it to do plus who knows what else. But I guess if max 3g speeds arent fast enough for you, then waiting for 4g would be the choice.

I've been struggling with this too. Where I live, Big Red has confirmed 4G service by EOY 2011. I would have been eligible for an early upgrade in Sept but they discontinued that process I believe.

Long story short I don't see many grabbing a TBolt on a 1 year contract - most of use X owners will upgrade off contract. Good luck unloading your device!

EDIT: Just spoke with Verizon - if you upgraded before January 2011, you have one more Annual Upgrade to burn. Use it wisely!

Well, I was looking at a couple of different factors here.

I am assuming that the bottom will drop out of the 3G phone market once LTE phones start becoming more commonplace. Right now, I am thinking that I can get $250-350 for my Droid X. Some auctions on ebay went for $425. Once there are more LTE phones out, I think that the demand for 3G phones will die out, and I'll be lucky to get $150 in 6 months.

I also want to get on a 1 year contract now, before they go away. So if I am going to upgrade, why would I get a 3G phone now, if I am going to be stuck with the phone for a year? I am a student, and money is hard to come by, so I can't afford to pay full price for a phone.

Also, the Thunderbolt is $200/ 2 Year and $230/ 1 Year. Why would anyone get this on a 2 year contract? Was is this price when it came out?

Anyway, it is too good a deal to pass up. I upgraded one of my lines just now, and it will be here on Tuesday. $230+Tax and free 2 day shipping.

I guess the bug bit me. Hopefully my battery lasts long enough and the GPS gets fixed soon.

I was told that they wont allow anyone to update to a year contract anymore but the reported if the user is already signed up for the new two and eligible to do the upgrade on the 12 month this should be still covered because contract was signed before change but that would be the last time they will qualify for the discount on a year term.

A couple of my good friends just bought thunderbolts, they're not all that tech savy and the rep told them it had a dual core processor lol, I had to break their hearts.

Anyway i've had as thorough a hands on as I could and I'm not that impressed by it. It's thicker than the DX and with a case it's pretty hefty, sense is nice but doesn't justify an upgrade.

I'm waiting for the bionic depending on the screen type it has. I still have the new every 2 upgrade until July so I'm sure something better will be out by then.

I actually purchased a TB and returned it switched to a DROID x and I feel like that was an upgrade in hardware the only thing the TB has to deliver is the 4G itself and that is only in very few areas

I have played with the Thunderbolt at Verizon for several hours and I can say I am very happy with my X. I will wait for the next generation of phones.
