Hey guys, first post here. I own a Sprint Palm Pre and I'm a member over at precentral. I'm eligible for an upgrade in a few weeks and I'm thinking if I should move on over to Android. I know webOS 2.0 is coming out later this year, hopefully along with some new hardware. What's a good reason for switching over to Android and the Evo? The stock battery in the Pre only lasts about 8 to 10 hours a day and it's a major flaw. How long does a Evo's battery last in real world usage? I use the web browser, email, texting, twitter and facebook a lot. Any high pros to Android itself?

I came from the Pre also...I've been getting great battery life and never use task killers...right now my phone has been unplugged for 15 hours with casual to moderate use and I still have 40% left. You won't regret the switch....while webos was nice I can never imagine going back to the pre after using the evo since June. I haven't been able to put it down since it first came out!
Thanks for the reply. I haven't used Android since the G1 with I guess 1.5 so I don't know how Android 2.1 works. How does multitasking work? Does it ever get bogged down?

Just today I was downloading some files, listening to Pandora, and using Dolphin HD to surf the net. The surfing was a little slower than normal, but the phone itself didn't bog down. In the two weeks since I've had the phone, it got stuck a bit a few times, but it resolved itself without having to hard reset. A couple of times, the scrolling got kludgy, but I believe that was because I was installing a program at the time, and it only lasted a few seconds.
Really, the Evo performs like a dream compared to my Touch Pro 2.

I can hardly wait. Dealing with this BlackBerry Bold 9650 is killing me (and I've only been using it for a day). I'll make the exchange as soon as I can get my hands on an EVO. Coming from a Droid Incredible, I have to stick with Android.
I've only had my Evo for 2 days now and really can't say that I miss my Pre with the exception of three things:
On the flipside, Android makes up for all of my other major gripes with WebOS. I've been able to find apps to replace my Pre favs (and more that the Pre only dreams of having) and the learning curve isn't bad coming from a Pre.
My 1st day of battery life was horrible but today was MUCH better. It was around 12 hours but I will attribute that to me not being able to put it down. Today's usage patterns were WAY above my normal only because I'm still playing with it.
Like someone else said previously you will NOT regret the switch to the Evo.
- Cards: I don't necessarily miss multitasking because Android can do it too but it was more elegant with webOS
- Silent Switch: I really didn't think I would miss this until I had to
- Gestures: Not a big deal....was just nice having them with WebOS

I think the biggest thing for me besides the hardware and stability is the BATTERY.

I also had the Pre. The keyboard on the EVO is the best I have used. With the implementation of swype, the typing experience is unrivaled. Screen size difference is huge too.
My Pre always had good battery life (thanks to the Govnah app), but the biggest thing that the Pre is missing is apps.
Android just has so many more, and such a large variety of applications that webOS can't compare.

WebOS is great but Android is even more customizable and has the best Google integration. Can't wait for Gingerbread, Palm's lead ui designer now works for team android and gingerbread is to have a major ui revamp.
Might be a little off topic but I just had to setup a pre for my wife and it felt ancient. Can't believe we survived with such a small screen
biggest thing for me is the sexiness of the hardware!
besides that.. no matter how much i love palm it always feels dated now.. i cant compete with my friends iphone 4's or Droid incredibles..
now if palm had htc hardware.. id have a hard on.. and would definately stay with webos
