It worked just fine for years, despite being locked into the one OS version. My partner broke her tablet and borrowed mine while I try to find a solution. When I got mine back, it no longer charged. Not even a blip of a charge.
I like my tablets big and with a pen. And Samsung's only got one or 2 now with pens and I'm just too twitchy to pay as much for a tablet that is as expensive as a laptop.
So today I took the back off the Note 10.1, removed the battery, found one online, and ordered it. Cheap enough so that if this isn't the fix, I won't be crying for too long.
But when I do research about how to root and update it, I can only find things from 2016 and a few from '17. And a lot of complaints that it didn't work.
1 - is it possible to still root and update this tablet? I think it had Ice Cream Sandwich or maybe Jelly Bean on it. I'd like to update it as far as possible, in terms of firmware.
2 - where do I get the files I need to update it? Do I really need Kies?
3 - is there anything else in there I will need to upgrade in order to get the higher OS?
