Was $49 a good price for Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 from BestBuy retail store? Or did I pay too much?

I got the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3(white) from my local BestBuy retail store last week.

It was $99 during the one-day-only sale. I also had a PhoneFreedom $50-coupon offer
which I signed up back in February of this year. I walked out the store after paying only
$49+tax in cash.

Now I just read on those "deals" websites that the VZW GS3 may go down to $0
on Black Friday sale.... I wonder if it's worth it to wait in line and get it at that price.
(which means I'll end up making $50, thanks to the PhoneFreedom coupon)

Well I know most of us paid 199 for it. So I would say u got a good price of only 49.

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S8 on Verizon 12G

yes.... but I'm a board-certified cheapskate. :) if the Black Friday price is really $0, it means I'll save another $100.

50 dollars is well worth the phone and not needing to stand on line with the rest of the crazy shoppers makes it even more worth it...

Agreed. But we've also had it for like 5 months now already.

Yep, you got a steal... I listen to GeekTime on Howard Sterns channel and last week they had a tech expert on and he said the S3 "is" the best phone (both specs and features) that you can buy. Hope you enjoy your new phone :)

"best phone that you can buy...."

agreed! :)

but since I'm a certified cheapskate, I was hoping that the GS3 can be the best phone
that I don't have to buy. (i.e. get it for $0 or make $49) :)

Most of us are happy with the $200 purchase we made. So you might be asking the wrong people to ask if you can get your phone for free.

I would pay someone $50 to go to the store for me on Black Friday to pickup the phone for free. So in the end, we would be paying the same price anyway : )

You can wait if you want and see. Sometimes those "cheap" deals lock you into longer contracts. Best Buy had the S3 on sale a month or two ago and it was for a 4 year contract.

I have never heard of that. In fact I know Verizon has never done that in the 16 years I have been with them. And I don't think best buy can change Verizon or any other cell company policy other than in store warranty.

i paid $199 and i would pay the $50 to not get up at 5 am to go get a phone that everyone else will be there too. your not guaranteed you will even get one before they run out

For me it comes down to how much my time is worth (or at least how I perceive it). I'm not into throwing money out the window, but at the same time other things and priorities are tugging at my limited time. One way to think of it if you pay $50 for the S3, this breaks down to $0.13699 dollars per day over the course of one year. I'd say thats a good deal compared to some of us who got the phone earlier, say at $199, or $0.54521 per day for a year. For two years (typical contract length), at $199 then thats around $0.2726 per day. Just talking about the hardware here and not the plan and accessories. So, if you pay $50, youre saving approximately $0.4 dollars per day compared to the $199; or $0.13561 dollars per day for $199 over two years (feel free to check my math...its notoriously bad). What I think would be cool is if you get the phone at $50 off contract, so no big loss financially if you get tempted by a Note 2 or the next cool phone down the road.

Neither had I. My buddy is a kiosk manager for Radio Shack and BB had a better deal that RS so we was going to upgrade there, but said the contract was longer.

If one is willing to wait they all end up free sooner or later.....as someone once said before, there is a price associated with being first on the block.
So to answer your question; Did I pay too much? It's relative and only you can determine what too much is.
I paid $199 for a 32GB several months ago and have enjoyed every day that I've owned it.....did I pay too much, no.

My co-worker got the $50 BB deal on Sunday also. I'm the one that told her about it. It is a great deal. I got really lucky and got mine at Sam's Club on Nov 18th for 96 cents for being a Business Member but I was prepared to pay $100 for this phone in order to get it before Christmas. (all of this is with a 2-year contract of course).
