Was ready to root, until I read the instructions

Ok, I'm a bit bothered by the problems with streaming music on 2.2 and wanting some of the battery life fixes with under-clocking and such. Then I read the instructions and watched the YouTube video.

You've GOT to be kidding me. I think I'll go into my garage and assemble a nuclear bomb instead. It has to be easier. LOL.

I think I'll wait for a simple-root method for stock 2.2.

Lmao it's not as bad as you think. That's the same thing I thought but it's really not bad at all. The hardest part is going from 2.2 to 2.1 which as long as you take your time, follow directions to a t, double check before you enter a command prompt, you're good to go. Because once you're down to 2.1 you can use Simple Root which is literally 2 clicks. After that, delete the stuff out of your sd that was put from downgrading and simple root, put whatever ROM you want into the SD card, turn phone off, press n hold power and vol down, bootloader, recovery, wipe, flash rom, reboot, and enjoy. I've done it to about 10 Evo's so far and if you REALLY take your time it'll take no more than an hour.

Haha its really not as hard as it seems. I was worried about it at first but then I did it the day it came out and it was my 1st time. You just have to follow the directions carefully and you'll be set!

Yo jerzy stop beating me to the punch. Haha

I kicked my down to 2.1 and used unrEVOked 3 to root. (instructions for XDA developers forum).

Took me 10 hours to do I made every mistake possible just sit down fallow all the instructions but make sure you have plenty of time in case something goes wrong that way you have time to fix it.

Later,
Dave

I would recommend unrevoked3 then simpleroot step 2 for nand unlock cuz with unrevoked forever I had a prob with the hboot version

how is CM6 working for you? Im running OMJ 3.1 right now and was considering switching to CM6 but read about problems with vibrate and other stuff not working correctly on it.

Simple Root takes care of everything though. Instead of using two programs I think it's easier to just one. I've also heard of bad things from using UnRevoked

Its working great for me. I haven't had anything happen that would make me wanna switch. But there's a puerto rican from "jerzy" trying to tell me to make the switch to vaelpack. Ahaha

I'm still wondering if rooting is worth the trouble. 10 hours? Complicated directions? Possibly bricking your phone? No thanks. I will wait for the next official update to smooth out the remaining bugs. I also read on this site that a lot of the custom roms have features of the device not functioning like GPS, 4G, the camera, and others. It's not worth it to me.

I think he was trying to prove a point that you really need to just take your time. The first time I did it, it toko me about 2 hours. But I also had a few beers and ate dinner in between lol... I've done it to 10 other Evo's since and it doesn't take long at all. I still take my time and triple check every command before I hit enter. It's not complicating, you just have to be focused, take your time, triple check your commands before you hit enter and you'll be fine. The hardest part is downgrading to 2.1. After that it's 2 clicks with Simple Root, delete the files from downgrading and Simple Root from your sd card, put whatever ROM you want on your sd card, turn the phone off, push power + volume down, hit bootloader, recovery, wipe, flash the rom, reboot, enjoy.... The ROM I'm using, VaelPak 2.0 has literally everything working. GPS, 4G, camera, HDMI, you name it works.

After you do the downgrade, do Simple Root. It's literally 2 clicks with the mouse. Just make sure before you do Simple Root you delete whatever files that may be in your SD card from downgrading... When it puts you in Recovery go to backup/restore and do a Nand backup. Then go to return, reboot.. After Simple Root, delete those files from the SD card too.. Then, put whatever ROM you want into your SD card, turn your phone off, press and hold the power and volume down button at the same time. Use the power button to hit Bootloader, then go to Recovery.. then watch this video. Skip to 5:16. It'll show you EXACTLY what you have to do install a custom ROM once you're in recovery.
