Water damage to Samsung phone. Do I have hope to retrieve the data?

I dropped my Samsung phone in the pool. Im completely distraight. All my kids pics and videos are on the phone. I stupidly didn't back it up or synced to the cloud in the any way. As soon as the phone dropped into the pool is jumped in and fetched it. It was still working. I thought I dodged a bullet. I was checking it to see if it was ok and then it died. Does this mean I've lost everything for good? I took the battery out,dried it with a towel then remembered someone once told me to use a hair dryer to dry it. So I did. Then a friend told me to not to use a hair dryer but to put it in rice. So I did. Do I have any hope in retrieving any data? If so please please advise how
