That Sprint 4G "song" that plays upon start-up can be quite loud and annoying. Beside having the volume off when I shut down the phone (so it's off upon start-up), is there any way to get rid of that song?

I'm not rooted.

i sure do miss having the ability to slide a switch on the top of the phone like the Palm Pre to silence everything quickly

Have you tried the "profile" widget?

In your home screen, hold down on an open area to add a widget to home, click on "get more HTC Widgets" and select Profile.

sweet, the I went into the HTC widgets and it didn't show the Profile widget you mentioned, but I clicked Menu and synced it to check for new HTC widgets and it downloaded the Profile and Ringtone widgets. Thanks for the tip

I think the volume keys are the easiest way to control the volume. Just hold the volume down button for a second or two and you're on vibrate. One up from vibrate for silent mode.

Hold the power button down until you get the selection screen. Choose "Vibration Only". When you reboot you will get only a quick vibration, not the splash screen sound. You could also choose "Silent Mode" but you won't hear or feel anything if calls or messages come in. It's not a big deal to put the phone on silent or vibrate mode before you boot up and then change it back after boot. After all, how many times a day do you reboot your phone???
