Done. :)

Followed this original post and had to modify a few things. Everything up to "cat /sdcard/su > ." works fine, rage will get you root shell.

I ended up having to download an updated version of Superuser.apk (2.3.6.1) and using that apk, along with the su binary that came with it.

Also, I'm not sure what's up with that syntax for cat asdsad >. That just looks stupid, so I just adb pushed the files to their /xbin locations instead of cat-ing them.

Tested with "CacheMate for Root" from the market, worked just fine.

I'd like to root mine but I have to wait for an idiot proof way, if I tried to do mine like namebrandon did I'd have one screwed up phone.

The instructions are all there, but where did you get all the required files from?

I should be a bit more clear on how I did this too, since his "cat" commands seemed goofy to me.. After this line..

mount -t rfs -o remount,rw /dev/block/stl9 /system

I exited the shell, back to my dos prompt.

Then I just did adb push filename /system/xbin/filename
for the files..

chmod from the dos prompt is just adb shell chmod 4755 /path/filename

once those four commands are done (two for each file) I just adb install superuser.apk.

I rebooted for good measure, not sure if it's necessary.

Nah, I was just typing quickly. If I came across as a ****, it wasn't on purpose. You did a good job making it clear and concise. I wouldn't have figured out half of that without your original post, so it's all you man.. I didn't do anything, just copied your steps. :)

I appreciate all this, but I think we need to rewrite the step by step procedure. It doesn't quite include all the info dummies like me need.

Pretty sure he is Cory. At least that's the one I used.

Do you have root explorer? If so, would you mind going to /system/app and try renaming the blockbuster app to blockbuster.apk.old, then navigate up one directory, then go back in and see if the change stuck?

Cool. Now be careful what you rename. People in the X forums were bricking their phones when they started renaming certain things. For example DO NOT rename or delete the Verizon Backup Assistant program. You'll be in brickville with no way out.
