Weather and clock widget issue

I've been extremely annoyed by the default weather widget not wanting to work as intended, I mean, the only way that works for me is to enter my city manually, that's exactly how I've always wanted to use it but because of the Lockscreen weather widget is always showing the annoying "weather unavailable error" I've tried everything I possibly could think of and nothing seems to to fix it.

My location is on using the battery saving option, that's the way I just use it in all my devices, so I thought it should work if I change it to high accuracy, ehh wrong, the Auto location weather has never worked, not out of the box, not even after I factory reset it twice and not even after debranding it from T-Mobile to the Unlocked US version (it requires unlocking the bootloader so it reseted again), no matter what I do or what Location option I use it never works.

Location is working fine for all the other apps that requires it, just not for the Weather app, it has never asked me for a location permission nor there is an option to allow for it on the App settings, there is no lockscreen options that I can turn on or off and even by resetting the weather and Weather widget apps data and cache, disable and re-enable them, the lockscreen widget still shows and still has the annoying error message.

As you can see I've tried everything and by doing a Google search it seems that it's a known and common HTC issues for years, some people have managed to fix it by doing some of the things I've already done but most of them have never fixed them. I really can't understand how HTC can have an app like the one on the lockscreen that you can't even edit its settings and to make things worst it doesn't work. It should simply pulls the settings from the Home screen one, and work just like that one, but even if you add a city manually it seems to requires the Location to be on so it shows your actual location's weather. That's a huge bug, but the worst one is that the actual location feature doesn't want to work no matter what I do. The error it always gives me when trying to use the Current Location weather is, "unable to detect current weather, pull down to refresh" , it has never worked.

Anyone else with the same issue? Obviously I'm not going to factory reset a 4th time just to see if it finally works, I can deal with the home screen one as at least it works as I want, with manual cities entered, but the one from the lockscreen can't be changed and seeing the error all the time just triggered my worst OCD symptoms.

Do you have the "unavailable" error all the time or just in certain places. I used to have that issue with my M7 and I was told that if I wasnt connecting using a "carrier" tower then I might not get a good location. I see on the 10 you can select which group of location services you want to use. Does it work out of power saving using GPS, etc? If so it may boost the carrier tower answer.

It has never worked no matter the Location option or if it's on wifi or data. Always the same error after 3 factory resets and apps clear data and even wipes cache partition. Location works great in all the other apps, in Google maps it pinpoints my location instantly, so it's definitely app related.

Hard to believe I'm the only one with this issue...

But to give you all an update, just 1 hour ago I tried again and changed my location to High accuracy, then went to the Location Scanning settings and turned on Wifi scanning, in the weather widget I turned on the Auto detect my location option, rebooted the phone and for my surprise and for the first time I saw the Lockscreen widget showing my location, so I immediately went to the weather app just to see if the Current Location information was finally showing but there was the usual "Unable to detect Current Location" message, after seeing this I went back to my Lockscreen and there were no more weather information and got back the "Weather unavailable" error again.

I'm giving up here, this is just BS and an obvious bug that seems to be happening for years with at least 4 of the last HTC flagships and Sense, do a Google search and you'll see, and worst thing is that it seems nobody is paying attention to it.

I use the 1weather app. If you are really into weather, the stock stuff isn't going to cut it. I need to see radar data. But some apps I'm the Play Store run into that issue too I believe.

Problem is that the 3rd party apps will only help with the home widget, and for me I can deal with it because I manually enter my city and it brings the information, but the lockscreen widget doesn't have any settings, you can remove your home screen one, replace it with a third party or anything else and the lockscreen one will still be there showing the Weather unavailable error message, huge bug for HTC, and a very annoying one for people like me with OCD.

In order to get rid of the lockscreen widget an its issues you need to install a third party lockscreen app and that brings another set of possible issues and hassles that shouldn't be necessary in the first place.

Re: Google news and weather widget
I'm having the same issue with multiple devices ZTE zMAX Sony Xperia Z Ultra Samsung Avant, Samsung Galaxy View Samsung relay, LG Stylo.. something is going on with the widget that the news works just fine but the weather is not.
Ver 1.3.04 tried uninstalling and reinstalling factory reset nothing has worked I don't like the newer version can anyone help

That's so weird! Whenever that's happened to me, I end up clearing the cache, turn location off and on, and maybe quickly go into airplane mode, so I can "reset" my cell signal. It always comes back though. Could it be some type of hardware issue??

Nope, it's definitely software related (bug) there are a lot of other users for years with the same issue with the weather widget and Sense. It can't be hardware related when every other single app or service works perfectly with all the Location options, lke I said it pinpoints my location immediately when I request it from Google Maps, I even did a GPS test via the hidden menu and it passed just great.

I also posted this on XDA forums and there is another guy with the exact same situation and he mentioned that his wife's M8 works great but just like me, his HTC 10 has never shown any current local weather information and the lockscreen just says the same, unavailable. What is weird is that he is also from Puerto Rico, so at first I thought that they have some issues with the weather database and it's not showing actual information when it's outside USA continental but if it was just that there would have been a lot more people complaining.

I have had no issues at all I have it on auto detect my location and it gets it just fine have the M9 and I have no trouble with it either. I mean I have had all HTC phones from the M7 from all set to Auto detect and it has works like it is suppose to.

Yeah, you and 95% of the HTC owners that use auto detect, but for the rest of people like me, it's an annoying bug, and if history is to be repeated, it seems there is no much hope for a fix. I mean I haven't even received a response from HTC support since I let them know about it.

Interesting discovery and update about this issue.

I have the HTC 10 and an S7 edge, so the idea was to alternate between the 2 every once in a whole, so on Tuesday I went back to my S7 edge and I've been using it for the past 5 days, what I immediately realized after I restarted the HTC 10 after removing the Sim card and SD card was that there was no more Weather unavailable error, the Lockscreen widget was showing the information just fine, only thing different was that it didn't have a SIM card installed so what for me was very strange. I don't know if the Desktop widget was going to work or not because I ready have disabled and installed a 3rd party app that was working as the original should have.

Well, today I decided to switch phones again and for my surprise as soon as I installed the Sim card on it and went to the lockscreen, there was the error again, so it can't be a coincidence, there's a huge bug affecting current location information when using what at least seems to be an out of the continental USA carrier, even when I'm using a T-Mobile one, that here in Puerto Rico is the same than in the States. So it may be an APN thing or simply it detects location as out of CONUS and errors out, it's so annoying.

Any ideas guys?

My idea for you is to get a new SIM card or do a factory reset. For the first time I put in my SIM card into my 10 because I was just using Wi-Fi for a little bit to set it up for the past 2 weeks waiting for cases and Holster to come in. When I put in my SIM card and it took about 10 to 15 minutes for everything to sync up to the network. With Wi-Fi off my location was picked up immediately and I had my location on my clock on the lock screen. So cannot be a major bug or everybody would have it. Maybe it is the network or your sim card that's pretty easy to replace just go to T-Mobile and get a new SIM card.

Location alone is not the problem, like I've mentioned in the previous posts on the thread, it pinpoints my Location immediately, everything else that uses location works as it should except for the buggy Weather App. I install a third party app (actually any of them) and Current location works great, the only problem is with the HTC original weather app and widget.

No, the problem is not an isolated problem as I've done tens of google searches and there are people with the same problems since the HTC M7 and even before that, even now, posting over XDA forum, there are 2 more people that have posted there with the same issue, only thing in common is that all of us live in Puerto Rico, even different carriers, so no, it can't be the SIM card, but thanks anyway.

And I have owned every HTC phone including the M7 the M9 and now the 10 and unfortunately I have never had that issue it is always show my location in the lock screen and I have always use the HTC weather app. I guess I've just had great luck then.

I know you were trying to help and I thanked you for that, I was just letting you know all the details so you or anybody else don't think that I'm just not doing what I should in order to fixed this issue.

But, my theory has been confirmed by the one of the other guys I mentioned before from the XDA forums thread, after I posted the same message on their thread he went and removed his SIM card and left just the WIFI connection and just like in my case the Current Location and Lockscreen widgets began to work immediately, so it definitely is a Bug on the app like I said and it seems that once it detects an USA carrier Sim card (AT&T or T-mobile) it is expecting a Continental USA location, if not it errors out.

Something that I just remembered and now I think it's related to this too is that since day 1, I haven't been able to use Auto Time Zone on the Date/Time settings, it always tells me that can't detect my Time Zone, when I can insert the same SIM card in any of my phones (I've had about 4 other different brands in the past year, LG, Sony, Samsung and Motorola), a couple of them International Unlocked ones, and it detects my Time Zone without problems, so for me it can't be a coincidence and this 2 problems are related, and it's simply an HTC/Sense issue.

All right now that I know more about your situation my actual voice it's a do a factory reset. The reason being is that not is not a sense issue that isn't isolated issue because I have a sense phone I have an M9 and I have the 10 I put the SIM card in the 10 and it detected my auto time zone and location automatically. So there has to be something in your software that is messing up and most likely a factory reset should fix it. Because again I am not having any of the issues that you are having and if it was a widespread issue there would be a lot more people having those kind of issues I mean more than 5 or 10 people. You gotta remember that with technology sometimes there are some bad apples that come off the line now let's hope it's just a software issue in the factory said is all you need and it's not a hardware issue for you.

I have done 2 factory resets and tens of Weather app and Weather widget apps clear cache and data already and nothing. Remember that I even Unlocked my bootloader and paid $25 to have Soff so I could root it and install the US unlocked firmware, all of this after days of trying to fix this annoying issue, for my surprise even with the US Unlocked latest firmware it just does the same, now I basically have an Unlocked US one instead of the T-Mobile version and still didn't help with the issue.

But just to let you know, it was confirmed by the other guy posting over XDA forums that if he removes his Sim Card it also works for him, he has AT&T and I have T-Mobile. There was this other guy that just posted today having the same issue and is for another country, only thing in common is that none of us lives in CONUS, I bet that when we travel to the states it should work without issues just like most of you right now.

I was on a chat today with HTC customer support and after 55 minutes of a very frustrating and basic step by step instructions from them, they just simply told me that they were going to report it to the Dev department as its clearly a bug affecting users from outside Continental USA or other big market countries.
