Webapps or Stand-alone?

Hi,
Based on bad experiences with several apps' battery drain (Facebook comes to mind), I've usually tried to use webapps and mobile pages in place of apps whenever possible. I've just always assumed there's less background processes and cruft in going that way, and it keeps my app drawer manageable.

Lately I've been wondering if using webapps vs. stand-alone make any real difference. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

The big advantage to using the web site instead of the Facebook app is that the web site is much better for user privacy.
