On the back of the HTC One X, I've found five small metal "dots" near the bottom right corner. What are these for?

A reviewer theorized they were for a dock - haven't seen anything else about them.

Pogo pins. For docks, charging. Maybe syncing.

So is there anything these dots are actually used for?

As noted, they are pogo pins. They make contact with docks typically, and can pass through charging and AUX connection. Makes for much less breakage as there is no stress on the cable ports. That is, if the manufacturer's USE them. The dock for the One X does NOT use them, though my Gnex one did. Once you have used a dock that uses the pogo pins, the rest is a kludge.

As stated above; does anything actually use these?

Yes. There is a standard OEM desktop cradle that uses them

I got one.
Works nice. Especially for listening to Tune-In while at work.

I have an international model HOX, and I ordered mine from some place Modern-Tech
Genuine HTC CR S650 Sync & Charge Speaker Dock/ Docking Station for HTC One X > Memory Cards, Memory Sticks & More
Be sure to order a UK-to-USA power converter plug if you buy one of these - about 3 bucks)
BoxWave Universal to American Outlet Plug Adapter - Amazon.com

(AT&T allegedly forced HTC to slightly move the location of the pins so that they could force you to buy their dock instead of the Standard Dock. I have no way to know if this is true or not. The model I got works perfectly with my htc international version).

It's the micro USB pinout in pogo pins..
