I put my phone on silent last night (I do this every night) and also on ultra power saving mode. I don't like to charge my phone overnight so I put it in UPSM to last through the night without it dying so I could still get my alarm to go off then charge it this morning. I also have my phone password (not PIN) protected (I have curious kids lol). Anyway this morning I charged my phone and turned my ringer/sound back on. Then I restarted my phone (I like to do this too btw) and my sound/ringer turned back off when it came back on after the restart. I had to turn it back on even though I did that before I restarted my phone. Any ideas? This is the first time its done that. I don't know if its because of the UPSM or what. TIA

I personally would consider it a bug. Might want to let Samsung know about it.

I thought maybe it was in the UPSM settings but there's nothing there. I also thought it could be it being on the password protection, but I changed it to just swipe and I restarted it and got the same result...the ringer turned off.

EDIT: I contacted Samsung and they want me to perform wipe cache partition. never done that before...will it restore my device to factory settings?

No. I can provide a method to do so in a moment.

thanks...wiped cache partition and its still doing it. oh well. another thing too is that when I wiped the cache and selected to reboot my device it gives me an error. it will still reboot but there is an error (triangle with exclamation point) before it reboots. does that mean anything?

Shouldn't give an error. It may be there is an error in the recovery partition.

and what does that mean exactly? could it eventually make my phone unusable? sorry for the many questions. I normally don't mess with my phone that way lol

When did you get your S5? I think I'd err on the side of caution and report the issue and/or have it replaced. Especially if it just started doing it.

its already been pas the 14 days where I can replace :(

The semi or non functioning recovery partition doesn't affect the phone. But if for whatever reason you can't get the OS up and running, and you can't get recovery going, you are in a tough position. If you can, I would see if a local Best Buy that has a Samsung center in it can help.
