I've never had any of my Samsung devices burn through SD cards. I honestly think this has been over blown and most of it being user error.
Putting apps/app data to sd cards causes corrupt files when the sd card dislodges from a hard impact, it causes users to have problems. Simple fix....don't put apps/app data in your sd card.
Also, just a few weeks ago, I had an issue with my 64gb c10 SD card on my S3 where it wouldn't recognize and not mount it after I had taken it out and installed a new rom. Drove me NUTS!!! I must of formatted the thing at least 20 times!! Nothing! I started to get the feeling that the stories online about Samsung devices burning through SD cards was true! I didn't give up because I knew I had not damaged the card in any way unless reformatting damages your card. One day, I finally Googled the right words that exactly described my situation and sure enough, I came to a thread on XDA where a user stated that all he did was 'blow in the sd card slot like an old Nintendo cartridge'! Seemed silly when I read it but I did it....blew in that sucker HARD....put the sd card in and BAM.....I was back in business!!

A can of dry air, some microfiber cleaning tips and a tiny bottle of pure alcohol are a good investment. These holes and ports are tiny and they can still get very dirty. I just had to clean out the tiny mic hole on a phone without pushing the debris deeper, it takes a hand made scraper needle and it's nerve wracking every time I do it for someone.
Sammys CAN burn up a card, but usually with PC file transfers or recording 1080p for half an hour or something. I've stuck with expensive cards and never burned one up, but I have seen plenty of unrecoverable MicroSD that could not even be recognized as attached. The failure rate is probably still small, but I suggest a premium card and cloud backup. I mean, why do people buy a phone for $600 outright then clothe it with a $5 rubber skin and put a $20 MicroSD in the slot?
