well still no 2.1 :(

Bummer, nothing wrong with believing if you don't mind the let down. When it comes to phones, 99% of the time people are just spouting off what they read from some obscure source and all of a sudden its everywhere! I'll admitt it, I had my hopes up for today.

Yup, thats why I dont believe what sales people tell me, they are just there to make money from me anyway they can.

Also most of the time phone manufacturing companies USUALLY dont do updates, because its cheaper and more profitable to just make you buy a new phone every time an update comes out.

Then you don't get to cry about it. We've had 2.1 ROM's built off the Sprint leak for a while. Too scared? then sit on your hands. I can tell you its awesome and no one has any room to complain about the hero's lack of anything with it.

i gave up waiting.... i wanted to get an official and root to get my wifi tether... i just got fed up with this waiting crap so i downloaded the latest damagecontrol. rooted. installed and am running 2.1.... man this thing is FAAAAAAAST!!!!

I am also afraid to root. I will wait impatiently for the update. It should be coming soon. I think it would have been better if I never saw any rumors that there was going to be an update. One of the previous posters is correct. The sales people at the store don't know anything about updates or anything in that arena. I have been given misinformation so many times. I was told by a Sprint representative that the update was already out. Shows you how much they know.

I'm not crying about it ****** bag. The official is right aroud the corner I just don't want to mess with it rooting because its not meant to be.

Some people just aren't comfortabel rooting their phones.

I know with my luck I'd wind up bricking the thing.

virtually impossible to brick a CDMA hero, just don't mess with the radio and you'll be fine. Don't know how to mess with the radio? Even better, its separate from most ROMs (thats why I don't use Fresh ROMs) Gbhil has a great write up and all you need to do is copy and paste into the command prompt. Takes maybe 5 minutes. Switching to 2.1 will wipe everything (but so will the official when it comes out). I've had 2.1 for a couple weeks now and can't imagine going back to 1.5. Its that fast and that feature rich. Bluetooth transfer works like a champ, 2.1+ apps rock, phone is faster at normal memory settings. I'm jist tired of all the bickering at Sprint for not releasing something, or saying they are behind or other crybaby stuff. Damageless had provided us with amazing stuff. I would take advantage of it while its still out.

I would agree that rooting isn't for everyone, but I wouldn't say it wasn't meant to be, android is Linux based and is open source, so if people have the know how, they can do pretty much anything. Which is why your warranty us voided if they see you rooted you phone, but you can always revert back as long as you back up your phone first. Back to the subject though, I hope the official update comes soon, if I don't like it, maybe I will root my phone, besides, rooting seems to offer so many customizable options which I think would be awesome. Sorry, I will end my wall of text now.

I would like to see the 2.1 update. I'm not bickering. Why would i? I have the best plan on this website 20 dollars a month 3000 minutes and unlimited everything on the simple and clear plan

I just rooted to DamageControl2.06, looks amazing, I hope the official update comes soon :-) I cant seem to get live wallpapers to work...oh well

What would you like to see? I'll post some screen shots.

If it wasnt meant to be as you say, it wouldnt have been possible. Im running a moment with rooted 2.1 DD03. Fast as hell and so many more options. Live wallpaper is cool too. Some people just want to wait and complain... There are 2 type of people in this world...Talkers and doers. Which one are you?

I thought there were 10 - those who understand binary and those who don't...

^EPIC^ (Thinkgeek has a shirt that says that.

As far as live wallpapers for the hero, I just asked rufflez the same question yesterday after I rooted my phone. He told me that the live wallpapers are not compatible with HTC Sense that natively runs on our Hero's, you would have to download the live wallpaper package and live wallpapper picker package and install them on your phone, then you would have to set your phone to use Android's home and not HTC sense. Then you would have to dl live wallpapers which can be found on the market. He did mention that he had seen a picture of HTC Sense running a live wallpaper, but he told me he wasn't sure if it would be coming to our beloved Hero's.

As far as rooting goes, its super easy and I haven't had any problems what so ever, just be sure to get the stock RUU and do the nandroid backup just in case. The how-to's on this site and on the XDA-Dev site are awesome :-)
