Ok, So I woke up this morning and wanted to put new music onto my evo. In the middle of the file transfer I get an error saying" Please eject disk before removing the usb cable". Baffled...i move the usb cable around and it would connect and disconnect.

Soooo I bring it down to the Sprint store to have them take a peek at it. After waiting an hour, the Store Manager comes up to me to tell me that the USB Power Outlet snapped off the PCB board and there was nothing that they could do because this is considered " Normal wear and Tear"...BS .....i have owned numerous phones over the past 6 years and have never had this problem ONCE! I tried talking to him about how it was a launch day phone and that I have been dealing with the light leakage ( that has gotten worse since I received the phone) and now this happens a week after Im able to return/exchange the phone. He said the only thing that I can do is pay the $100.

To top it off when I got it back from Sprint they completely removed the charging port and taped it to the back of the phone....so when the battery dies.....my Evo is useless.

Have any ideas guys? I just got off the phone with HTC and they said since I brought it to my local Sprint repair center and they opened it, THEY voided the manufactures warranty. So HTC can no longer help me.

Try calling sprint up directly and explaining the situation. That really sucks, good luck!

Call Sprint or HTC directly.

Complain you have been using it regularly and this happened.
To some of them, don't even tell them that you went to the Sprint store. Don't even tell them that the USB Power Outlet snapped off.

Ask for a replacement. It might take more than a couple tries.

I hate to break it to you, but if the charging port breaks 90% of the time it is the users fault, they sat the phone down with it pushed against it, or they yanked the cord out incorrectly.

Now.. the 10% of the time it can be manufacturers defect an example was the LG LX260 ( aka RUMOR) that had a notorious issue of the entire charger assembly breaking off the mobo and being stuck to the charger. It was so bad that we could get advanced exchange done on it and they would take it for free and not blame user for it, but then again it was because this happened to thousands of people.

Your story today is the 1st Ive heard out of anyone to break a charger port on the evo and Ive read 100s of reviews, belong to multiple forums, and work for a sprint retailer that does in the range of 7-10k phone transactions a month.

Im not devaluing your post, but im giving you some insight on how or why sprint would say its normal wear and tear/user error.

Now if this was happening widespread or even in a group of people like light leakage error, or the OTA causing bricks, then sprint would make an exception to the norm like they did with the rumor 2 years ago.

Hang in there.

My advice is to call sprint tele-sales explain what happened and play DUMB ( like REALLY DUMB.. uh my phone wont charge and i swapped the charger and it still dont charge durrr i dont have a car to go to sprint store and dem busses dont come round deeze parts) and say you heard that they did advanced exchange.
However if you are still in your 30 days they wont exchange it, they will tell you to go to the store.

Call sprint. Wine a bitch about how this is bs, the phone is just over a month old, and the sprint store further damaged your phone, and that you are very unhappy with the level of customer support they have offered thus far.

Make sure to stress the last part, and drop it a few times.

They might not be able to get one to you right away, but you'll get it.

Do you not have TEP? You say that they will replace it for $100, so that implies you have TEP. If you have TEP and they're calling it "normal wear and tear," they should replace the phone with at least a refurb for free...

I would just try another store if possible.

I wonder if you can get HTC or Sprint to replace under the manufacturer warranty instead of TEP
I did this once with a problem with my BB. I got out of paying my dedictible due to it being within the year manuf. warranty.

worth a try. Im sure if you bitch enuff you can make it happen.

So, if any of us have a problem with our phones, should we call HTC first, so that sprint doesn't open the EVO and void the warranty?
How long is HTC's manufacturers warranty?

I did call htc directly and they told me that since Sprint opened the phone it voided the manufacturer warranty.

Warranty is 1 year.

Difference is if you have sprint exchange your phone you get it in one day.

If you have HTC do it it takes 2-3 weeks and you have no phone in the meantime.

If a sprint authorized ASC opened the phone HTC should still honor the warranty if not then sprint can.

If the item is deemed not a warranty issue and the users fault then refer to my earlier posts of playing dumb

Well I talked to Sprint Customer Service and explained the whole situation in a commonly manner, and they are going to replace my phone. BUT they are backordered. So she noted my account and told me to go to another Sprint store to pick it up.

I called the Sprint store that i was told to go to and they are out of stock as well. They only have a call list ( First come first serve). And they will not hold one for me even though I have a customer service issue. This is getting a little ridiculous. I mean I am happy im getting a new one....but they can't hold a phone for a paying customer that is having major phone issues?!?( Not being able to charge it)

So i guess as soon as the battery dies im out a phone until I get a call.

Anybody have any ideas on how to charge my battery tonight without a usb charger port on my phone?

Pick up a wall battery charger. Also call sprint and ask them for your order number, they like to say they are going to replace the phone without actually doing it.even if its on backorder they can still give you the order number

Yeah, with an extra battery, you can external charge and swap batteries at least, and use your EVO until it's sorted out.

(sigh) It's customer service issues like this that hold Sprint back from greatness. I really hate hearing stories like this. Not sure how the other phone companies do things, but I do know that if it had been an iPhone and you had walked into an Apple store you'd be walking out with a new one. Sprint needs to be more like that. And so do the phone carriers because even in that iPhone example, I doubt AT&T would have been any better.

It's crazy. These phone carriers charge you a monthly fee for something that you can't even use while making you jump through all sorts of hoops just to get a working phone again. You know...that thing you are paying them the monthly fee for in the first place. Customer service in retail phone locations needs to improve dramatically.

chaosrecords I agree with u 110% $100 is way better then $450, which I paid to get a evo out of contract. Trust us, we know your really mad and upset and Any of us would be, but just pay $100 as soon as u can and get a replacement. You should write all your contacts down b4 your phone dies.

That's bull, you can't get an iphone 4 right now either. Yes, I agree he should get it ASAP, but they can't give what they don't have.
