Went to play with Nexus, also played with Rezound, bought neither

I went to a VZW store to use a Galaxy Nexus and get a feel for if I will buy one. Next to it was an HTC Rezound. After using the 2 - I'm torn as to which is better. The Nexus was faster at basically everything, including browsing the web, which seems like would be dependent on network, not phone? The Rezound seemed more intuitive, easier to navigate and more functional (some of this might be due to my familiarity with HTC?). The camera on the Nexus concerns me, I'm not hearing many good things being said about it and I take a load of photos with my phone. I took some photos with the Nexus and without viewing them on a PC it's hard to say how good they were, but they didn't look any better than my 2 year old Incredible takes. Basically, it sounds like a downgrade, which is hard to swallow at this price. So now I'm on the fence. Do I get speed and less bloatware or polish and functionality?

You have the same opinion I have. I think the phone is great. The camera however is flat out bad. Anybody who says otherwise is not being honest with themselves. I take a lot of pictures of my family out and about with my phone. The spur of the moment subtle convenience of a decent camera phone is something I personally care about. I have came from a Droid X which IMO takes great pictures for a phone. I don't think that the people who are happy with the camera have had a phone that takes good pictures. Those of us who have had one for over a year don't think the flagship of the year should be a downgrade in that department. I'm probably going to return my nexus, but i'm really going to hate myself either way. It's hard to hate something you love so much :(

The phone hardware has a lot to do with how fast webpages render/scroll/zoom. Load times are network. There is a thread stickied that has pictures taken with the GN you can view. They reallly arent as bad a people are making them out to be. Shutter is insanely fast.
You want the GN.

Having had the Rezound previously to the Nexus, I can say that you really cant go wrong with either phone.

I know that this isnt much help... but it comes down to a personal subjective choice. I can tell you that you shouldnt worry about which phone is better... because they are both great in my book.

The camera really isnt bad at all. I have taken some great pictures with it you just have to be patient and get used to instant shutter speed. i havent had any problems taking pictures. When i have tested it to aww people yes they turn out blurry because i am taking 20 pics in less then 5 seconds. but when i am actually taking it out to get a great shot, it hasnt let me down yet.

Thanks everyone. I did buy the GN, and so far the photos aren't as bad as I expected, but they aren't better than my Incredible takes either. I love the instant shutter speed though. Ultimately, the phone has been letting me down though, I don't get 4g where I should, and I have not been getting 3g everywhere else that I have been forever on my Incredible. Love the phone, hating that data is spotty at best. Thanks again.

Your issue with 4G and 3G is probably from Verizon, not your Galaxy Nexus. All 4G phones have been experiencing problems over the last few weeks. I had the problem on my Droid Charge and then it went away. I have not had the problem on my Nexus yet, but it is a Verizon problem more than likely. The signal meter on the GNex is definitely weaker than my Charge, but the call quality is the same. I think it is just a software problem with the meter. My friend in Florida had problems last week on his Charge.

Lol, Droid X takes great pictures for a phone... that's a pretty good one.

I think it's universally accepted that Motorola's cameras suck. Haven't read too much about the Bionic/Razr camera, since I wasn't interested in those two phones. I owned a Droid X for about 1.5 years. The camera is okay at best outdoors, pretty pathetic indoors and focuses so slow it is unbelievable.

I own a Nexus and I think Google hyped the camera up too much. It is not the uber camera they made everyone expect it to be. It is just a decent phone camera. Outdoor pictures are good, indoor pictures are moderate/poor depending on light. The focusing time is blazing though, that's what sets it apart from other cell phones.

dont fret, there is a fix in the works for this!

I came from a DroidX as well. That camera was decent but waiting forever to take pictures was not. For taking snapshots almost any smartphone camera will do. Nothing is worse than missing a shot. I have a couple of DSLRs that I rarely carry unless I have planned ahead of time.

I am a fan of Android but I love Nokia's high-end cameras. As much as I hate to admit it I like the iPhone camera as well.

In short, as a photographer I realize I have a "phone" and there are photographic limitations. I like that I can pull the phone out and quickly take a picture. Maybe not the greatest picture but a moment captured that I may have otherwise missed.

Well I had the Nexus, but today switched to the Rezound. 3g, 4g and even wireless were spotty at best on my Nexus. I even walked into the Verizon store and showed them that 3g wasn't working. They took the phone and couldn't get it to connect to 3g or 4g, while every other phone in the building was blazing away on 4g. I've been busy at work and haven't barely used the Rezound. Tonight, at home, will be the true test to if my signal is better with the Rezound. Will report back my results.

I disagree with you, but your entitled to your opinion as well as I. I totally agree that the DX camera has a slow shutter speed which is stone age compared to the GN, but maybe it's the megapixel that makes the difference. I've been comparing crazy amounts of pictures trying to talk myself into being okay with this camera, but i really can't wrap my mind around keeping it just yet. The problem is that i know how to take great pictures with my DX. It can be done in doors as well with appropriate lighting. This Nexus only wants to take a decent picture outside, and even then it's a crap shoot at times. I have some pictures i'll put together to show what I mean so you understand what i'm saying.
