What 3D objects will you scan with the depth camera?

I plan on trying it on a stuffed animal penguin when I get mine. Good first test.

What about you?

I'm going to scan a few of my old 3d prints to turn them into 3d printer printer templates then reprint them for accuracy compared to the originals, I'm gonna put the note 10+ through its tests to see if it's worth using for 3d printing models.

It's my understanding that the 3D scanning app will NOT be available at launch. None of the promotional units being reviewed have it that I have seen.

Detective Pikachu plushie for my great-nephew. Peppa Pig for a friend’s daughter. Probably other assorted similar toys once the kids see these in action. Assuming it all works as promised eventually.

I’m afraid I don’t have any practical ideas for myself as an adult.

This feature is something I'll use for maybe 2-3 weeks(if that) and then I probably won't touch it. It is nice to have though.

I wonder how well a photo would scan, since a photo is technically a 2D image?

I'd likely be scanning parts. Especially if it does not require any crucial dimensions.

I might also scan parts that I am investigating (as an engineer) to be able to perform rough dimensional analysis.

Lastly, if it's flexible enough and can scan inside cavities, I might do that to create a 3D map of a space so I can for a part into that cavity.

Much of this would be done with the intent of using my 3D printer.

If I buy the phone, it'll be mostly for this feature. I'd like to use it to scan parts for 3D printing. A couple of examples:

 • Camera flash mount (Minolta-type) that I plan to modify so that it serves as a reflector in front of the built-in flash, to avoid it from lighting the subject when I'm using it to trigger external wireless flash units. Something similar to this, but that can actually fit my camera (Sony A77 MkII).
 • A fractured translucent loupe skirt that I intend to reprint. Specifically, this thing:
