what about ART?

Just got my Nexus 5...should I make ART the runtime?

What are the benefits and negatives?

I personally setup my N5 for ART runtime, and recommend it, although your mileage may vary. App launch times are much faster, and battery consumption is less. There are other threads which discuss in-depth the merits and potential problems with ART vs Dalvik runtime, and it would be best to research those threads rather than duplicate them here.

In my case, my N5 runs well using ART runtime, and I only have one app that won't launch properly (which is no big deal, since that app is better used on my tablet). FWIW, Android is planning on dropping the Dalvik runtime and switching over to ART in the near future, as Dalvik is considered outdated and slower.

The only negative is some Apps won't work. Titanium Backup App was updated for ART.

On the positive some people clam anecdotal evidence that Apps are running faster after the App loads. I agree that all Apps should load faster under ART by pre-compiling that bytecode eliminating one loading step but just don't think someone could see it with their eye. Others claim ART extends battery life between chargers and that is my major attractions for wanting to try ART out.

I was upset that ART was deleted from the Kit Kat upgrade to my 2012 Nexus 7 tablet where I was going to test it out on before using ART on my Nexus 5 phone.

I am waiting for Android Central to tell me when it is safe to come into the ART pool first since the N5 is pretty fast now and the battery life gets me well past 24 hours.

been using ART since like day 5. only had an issue with tiny death star sometimes crashing.

I switched to ART as well. Not really noticing any drastic speed improvements and that may be because developers need to update their apps to take advantage of it. Nothing has crashed on me yet and I do see a definite improvement in over all battery life.

?My Threads? refers to the threads you've created. If you want to look at what you've posted inside threads, I think it's ?My Posts? or something like that.

Regarding your question... What do you mean by upload to Google Play? As in, you've created an app and want to know how to post it to Play?

I have two N5's, mine and my wifes. I switched both to ART as soon as we got them and have had no issues with any apps. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to try it.
