What and where is "clipboard"?

Before I download or share something my Samsung phone sometimes gives me "copy to clipboard" as one of the share options. From what I've seen from other posts the clipboard is virtual. If I did select it how could I get to it later?

Press and hold in a text field and select paste would be my guess

Welcome to Android Central! It may depend on which Samsung phone you have, because certain Samsung phones have a more fully-featured clipboard that allows you to temporarily save multiple items, while most other phones only allow you to save one item at a time.
