What are key benefits of Droid over Storm1?

I've been struggling with my Storm1 since launch. I've spent countless hours loading all sorts of OS leaks and hybrids in an attempt to make the Storm what it was all hyped to be. The latest official OS still is buggy and still falls short of what I think the OS should be. I've spent nearly a year on the BB platform and I still see little progress towards features I had on my old Palm Treo 700p.

I'm ripe for another change. I've been reading and hearing good things about the Droid, but I don't want to be another victim of hype like the Storm.

What are the benefits of the Android platform over Blackberry?

What are the key benefits of the Droid over the Storm?

it's more open than the Blackberry OS, it's (from what you can see in videos and what people have been saying) it's FAST.

wider variety of apps compared to RIM. (as well as more apps compared to appworld)

the hardware compared to the storms, is faster (faster CPU/GPU more RAM) has a physical keyboard, a larger much higher resolution screen. and with all that, it's thinner to boot.

under a minute boot time. (the mytouch i've been toying with boots in about 40seconds)

the biggest thing that rim has going for it is the BIS/BES service with the push mail. and bbm.

while i'll miss those for a while, the android platform seems to have more potential for something that isn't 100% a work phone.

I agree with Adiliyo I have used a BlackBerry for 3 years and it is the best as a pure business device. But the business side of me also has a consumer side of me and RIM just has not quite tapped into the consumer market as well as something like Android that can get the job done business wise and is still FUN to use!

To go alongside everyone else:

Any BB = Awesome business tool, extremely archaic interface, very closed.

Android = Still highly capable business device, fresh feel, very open for improvements and add ons. The integration into all things google is pretty slick too. :D

Basically, the Droid actually works. No random reboots, no constant batt pulls, no leaked/hybrid OS's to keep up with, no dust under screen, no non-clickable screens...none of that garbage.

Only good thing with the storm is, for worldly people, being able to use a pre paid SIM instead of VZW's international plan saves a lot of money!

The main attraction is the OS. BlackBerry's OS is very old and static, something I can't deal with anymore. Smart phones these days can easily have custom homepages, etc. Plus, lets not get into the BB default browser which is still in the 1990s.

couldn't agree with you more. I read up on Hero and other Android phones (before the DROID hype began) and I said to myself, "Why am I trying to use the BB as a personal device? This is something my job should provide." I mean, beyond App World and themes and all that, its as cut and dry as that. I'll never use a BB again unless the gig makes me use one (or RIM gets their act together).

Im also a storm 1 user thats struggled to make it what it should of been. I'm done. After reading every droid review I could get my hands on, I'm sure that its solid, and the I wont have to look for leaked OS or use the torx screw fix to make the screen click properly. + Im more of a consumer so I don't need the business features as much

I had the storm since launch. A year later: while I still think it's a decent phone, the droid is hands down, for me, the better phone. It really is night and day at how much I like the droid more than the Storm.

Pros- Physical keyboard, all touch screen, no reboots every once in a while. I have yet to have to reboot my droid. yeah, ever, I still am amused by that fact. Marketplace, google maps turn by turn voice navigation.

It sounds funny but to me, the droid blows the storm out of the water in almost everything. The only thing that the storm does better is email, that's not gmail. For some reason i'm still having difficulties setting up my other email accounts. But other than that, the droid is the winner for me.

Just subscribed to this thread as I am an S1 BIS user with a renewal coming up in a few weeks, and like the OP I want to make sure that I separate "hype" from "actual" this time around.
So far everything sounds good but I am a little concerned on the email functionality on the Droid
