What are my chances of getting Sony Z3 Compact screen fixed under warranty?

I was quite happy with the Z3 Compact, especially due to the great battery life, waterproofness and the comfortable bulky form factor. Sadly I have found it to be less durable than any other phone I've ever owned.

After almost a year of owning it in August the glass back cover cracked in my pocket without the phone being dropped. I sent it back to Sony and received it back in September, having paid £90 for replacing a piece of glass.

Now a few months later, the LCD display broke inside my pocket without any apparent damage to the phone (the glass on top of the screen is fine). The phone has never been dropped and I don't even wear skinny jeans to have applied any pressure on it, so I have absolutely no idea what could be the cause of this.

I am weary of sending the phone back to Sony, as they will once again charge me a ridiculous amount to fix it or ask me for £30 for "analysing" it. I guess I'll just try to replace the LCD on my own, but suffice it to say, this is the last Sony phone I'll ever own.

Welcome to Android Central! Sorry to hear that. I would guess that the warranty won't cover it, since the burden of proof would be on you to show that it wasn't due to trauma or other damage. And there's no way to prove it, unless you happened to be taking a video of the phone when the screen suddenly cracked.

They wouldn't even glue my non-cracked back cover back on under warranty...

I noticed that the back panel of the phone had started to lift ever so slightly (barely visible, but I could hear it creaking). I confirmed that the much touted IP rating ("waterproofness") was compromised by doing the leak pressure test (service menu and check if pressure changes when you press on the screen).

Given that the phone was still within warranty period I figured I may as well have them replace the back. I contacted Sony who unceremoniously threw me over to fonebiz (their repair agent here in Australia). Fair enough, that's business.

It takes over a week without my phone before I get a report back from fonebiz. "To replace the slightly lifting back plate we need to give you a refurbished PCB. That's out of warranty because the phone is damaged so we'll need $340 thanks." (not a direct quote)

Fantastic, so now I'm out of pocket $60 for sending my phone to them and without a repair.

I was liking the sound of upgrading to a Z5, but this ends my association with Sony phones.

Hi buddy - I had a similar experience but this time it was my front LCD that was lifting up due to melted glue...i noticed this when the proximity sensor was haywire when out of a silicon case but OK when the phone was snugly fir in the case. Beats the purpose of having a pretty coral green phoneif it should always be in an Armour case (dour).

How i fixed this was using an epoxy based adhesive / resin...easily available in any hardware store. (NOT super glue, okay?). This adhesive come in two tubes whose contents need to be mixed into a paste, then applied to the product and kept overnight. make sure the box reads non-corrosive.

STEPS:
i took two very small dollops and mixed them in a plate, to form a paste. Then i applied this in the gap between the raised LCD and frame...pushing it IN with my finger (note you may have to use a tooth pick to keep the gap pried open)

Be liberal with the paste as you can wipe it off with a damp cloth if it is spread away form the applicable area....finally after wiping rest of the device carefully, i tied two small rubber band across the breadth and length and dried over night....after a few hours you can also keep it into a case for better / even pressure and allow it to dry over night.,,,bam issue solved, proximity sensor working...pressure sensor says IP protection intact.

you will notice some roughness around the area where the glue has spread and you had meticulously wiped using damp cloth, you can slowly scrape it off using finger nails or let it be, its not visible...just feels abrasive to skin when glazed over.
