What are the benefits of rooting?

How do I? Why should I?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums!
Rooting methods can vary between carriers.
Root adds options to some apps, gives access to root only apps that can allow to back up application data, and freezing/deleting bloatware. And also root access is needed to flash custom ROMs, like Cyanogen or AOKP.

Try galaxys4root .com. Should be done by a guy named Zedomax. Does outstanding work. The site also reviews ROMs, so you get a little peek without even flashing.

first before you start thinking about rooting what base band are you on. i cant remember since i am on att but i think its me7, if you do want to flash roms use safe strap if your not on that happy flashing. here is a good site to do some reading on,
Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4 General - xda-developers

if your on me7 you cant flash asop or cm roms just TW using safe strap.
but rooting has its advantages, like the crap apps not sure what Verizon has but i hardly used the att apps, you can delete those to free space.
