What are the best affordable Android phones available ATM

I am looking for an android phone that has a long battery life and can perform well. I will not be using it for games or anything of that sort. It's for college I just need a phone that can last the full and and is not slow while using the internet and apps like gmail ect.

What is your definition of "affordable"? What carrier does the device need to work on? Your budget and carrier will matter but there are lots of great options.

It sounds like Nougat has done some great things for the performance of the Nexus 5x so that would be one option and it will work on any carrier.

The Blu devices you can buy from Amazon seem to be decent but they won't work on some carriers.
