Just wanna know what the different ROMs are and the most popular ones that a lot of rooted users use? Also, what can a custom ROM allow you to do?

Sorry for all the questions, just getting to know my stuff before I eventually root!

Within this Sprint Galaxy S3 forum, if you look above the threads there's a section in big letters that says SUB-FORUMS, right below that is the subforum that you're looking for. Within that rooting subforum are a couple of sticky threads that answer your questions. Now you know for next time. To save you the trouble this time, here's a link to the roms available to Sprint users.http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint-galaxy-s-iii-rooting-roms-hacks/186144-sgsiii-sprint-android-central-rom-kernel-library.html

Yes I know about that, but all that does is list the ROMs.... I already knew that was there! What I wanna know is the best/most widely used ROMs that are most stable, most customizeable, up to date (like have JB 4.2/JB 4.1.2), etc.

Yes sir, I have. But like I said, I just wanna know right off the bat, which are the most trusted, up to date, customizeable ones.

Also, the difference between TouchWiz based and AOSP based ROMs. Just starting to get to know all this stuff, so I wanna really get it down-pat before I root and install a ROM!

Wicked Sensations is usually a good one to go with.

Stock-Samsung ROM i.e touchwiz
AOSP-Android Open Source Project, this is the pure form of Android that comes pre-installed in all Nexus devices.
AOKP-Android Open Kang Project, based off AOSP but with few more additions/features.

AOSP= vanilla android basically then right?
And as for AOKP what kind of other features?

Thanks for all the help guys, just looking to see which ROM is best for me!

Pretty much yes. Both Cyanogenmod and AOKP add additional features that aren't in stock AOSP such as tooggles in the notifcation bar, Theme support, etc. I prefer cyanogenmod myself as i ran it on my last phone.

My favorites to date:
Team Venum Wicked Sensations
Darth Stalker
Paranoid Android

watched a couple YouTube videos of a rom called 'JellyBam'.. it looks interesting.

What on earth are you talking about. There are many themed tw roms. All of them have the 15 customizable toggles.

You also failed to mention that cm and aosp roms strip just about every custom feature from the phone. I ran nothing but cm and aosp roms for the better part of a year and a half. I and now hate them both.

I tried them on my gs3 and they both turned my gs3 into my boring nexus s4g. Why would I want that? IMO, stock android ui is about as ugly as it gets. While I'm not really thrilled with tw, it's more customizable than stock android. But I normally scrap the stock on either with Nova launched anyway.

Edit: I mis-read your post. You were comparing cm and aokp to aosp. Thought you were comparing to tw. Sorry....

My 3 faves are

Wicked Sensations
FreeGS3
The Peoples Rom

Another good one is Jelly Bomb if you really like blue lol.

But really all of them are great. The devs are awesome

Lol all is forgiven. I'm running cm10.1 now and i may end up going to freegs3 or to my backup stock rooted

They all have their little quirks. Go to YouTube and look up some demo videos. I did very little research on them and just tried a bunch out, these are the ones I like. Paranoid Android is more of an AOSP build, while Darth Stalker and Wicked Sensations are more TouchWiz based.
