what are your first impressions of the photon? I am really going to have to get used to this because I am coming from the best phone imaginable

Alrighty, I've been playing around with it for a while and I must say that I really like so far. My 4G signal seems stronger (more bars) than my EVO and the battery seems to be lasting longer considering I've had 4G on this whole time.

Love the hardware, display, almost everything, quick contact widgets, resizable calendar widget

Negatives (coming from an EVO 4G)
- Don't like the text message widget (Sense was better)
- Don't like that you can't turn off syncing facebook/linked in contacts (I don't care what the phone number is from the turds I went to high school with is)
- Using Google Voice I can't seem to seperate my google voice text messages from my phone text messages

I take it syncing Facebook and LinkedIn contacts is a Motorola function? Because I actually need both...

Loving it! Took back Evo 3D to get this puppy. The call quality is better with Photon. I am officially an International Player Now! Europe & Asia here I come. Can't wait to take this boy aboard with me. Signal strength was good think I'm going to keep this 1! Funny no one has heard of this Photon. Their lost.

So far the phone is great. It is fast, better signal than my Evo, and was surprisingly light when I picked it up for the first time. Played a few youtube videos and songs and the speaker gets loud. The kick stand seems to be really sturdy too.

The only 'bad' thing I have to say so far is the screen is a little dull compared to my Evo, still looks good tho.

Coming from an Evo not being able to play with the kick stand easily, or I would pull the top of the back cover off repeatedly, is going to take some getting used to because I always need to do something with my hands.

Unless I'm misreading your negative, if you long-press a facebook contact inside your overall contacts app and select delete, the Photon allows you to hide that contact.

Coming from a release day pre I'm loving the photon. No qualms with the screen and it's blazing fast (even compared with my overclocked GTab).

Didn't really get a chance to play with motoblur since lpp was synched. The hardware is awesome though and the phone feels great in my hands.

My facebook is synced and you can select to not see them in your contact list. Contacts, Menu, Display Options, Facebook and uncheck All Contacts

I do the exact same thing with my kickstand. LOL. I'm amazed that it never fell apart.

I like that the EVO's kickstand can be open by pushing or pulling with my pinky. Can't push it open on Photon, at least not easily. :(

after using this phone for a day and a half I have had some fun. The apps are nice and the google integration is great. I must admit though I am missing webos

As a former HUGE webOS supporter, I'll say: it'll get better. :)

Seriously, I do miss how elegant multitasking is with webOS. But, I could never do more than a small fraction of what I can do with Android, simply because of the apps. For me, it's not just been "fun," but rather a huge difference in how I can productively use my smartphone. Unfortunately, I don't think webOS will ever catch up.

Ok, first post. (Hello to all!)

Got my Photon yesterday. Enjoying the learning curve from Blackberry. Anyway, so far all good except my proximity sensor and ambient light sensors seem to be uncooperative. When making a call, the keypad remains lit and my cheek causes the phone to constantly try to dial numbers while I'm talking to someone. Apparently this is "not good" according to the gf. Also, "pocket mode" does not seem to work. (Yes, it's enabled). I assume the phone uses the ambient light sensor to measure the darkness of a pocket and lock the screen, but mine doesn't. Additionally, the auto-brightness doesn't seem to do a thing. Anyone seen this issue yet? A search yielded an old Froyo issue with this, but not current.

Other than that, loving the phone and Android. Being able to actually see and read a webpage is a rather feature. The battery seems to suck down quickly but I'm still working on the power management thing. Otherwise, all good.

And fwiw, I don't see why it was such a revelation that someone "discovered" to flip the phone over to have it charge and watch videos on the kckstand. It says in the manual to do that.

I wil say to send it back if its not turning off on you. the light sencor should pick up the darkness and turn the screen off.

Not everyone reads manuals so it was an amazing find and great idea, till you find out that MOTO is saying to do that lol... I know i don't read the manuals. I just mess with the phone and read up on the phone in the forums. much more fun that way :) congrats to you all and hope you enjoy your new toys. I'm still thinking about it but not 1 of my top 3 phones at the moment.

I compared mine with the EVO 3D and Nexus S. I am keeping the Photon. Here are my pros and cons.

Pros:
Brighter screen than 3D and Nexus, good viewing angles like Nexus but pentile screen is not as crisp as the Evo 3D.
Homescreen works in landscape mode and not on 3D.
Signal strength is twice as good as 3D and Nexus
Awesome call quality and loud speaker
Calendar app allows for a silent ringtone, one thing I hate on HTC phones.
Bluetooth links much quicker on the Photon than all the others
Good solid feel but much lighter than the 3D
2 noise canceling mics
16GB Storage
Awesome car dock!
Worldphone

Cons:
Pentile screen stinks accept for brightness and viewing angle, any streaming media looks grainy
Moto Blur looks like preschoolers made it, but I am using Launcher Pro and happy now
I have had to reboot 3 times in order to make outgoing calls. Anybody have this problem?
Touchscreen seems too sensitive, like it doesn't recognize the difference between dragging and selecting.
Bad front facing camera
Doesn't work with Skype yet, even with the hack that is floating around
No way to turn off mobile websites in the browser
Slow camera function
Different battery than other new Mororola devices.

Can't think of anything else right now, but even with some of the cons (probably fixed with an update) I will still be keeping this phone.

For those who is coming from older EVO 4g, is it rue that screen is Photon screen feels smaller?

The widgets and icons are smaller than they are on my Evo, so the gap between icons/widgets is larger, which I was disappointed about at first. After using the phone I've gotten used to it, larger icons would be nice, but it still looks good now.

So on the Evo3D, Sprint allowed the uninstallation of the carrier bloatware. Did they allow normal uninstallation of the bloatware on the Photon as well?
