What bloatware and apps can I get rid of?

I have always been an iPhone guy (but am a PC gaming nerd) and have only had one Android (Galaxy S). Now that I am back to Android I am having a hard time figuring out which apps to get rid of? Also what is the best way to keep the phone optimized? On iPhone, you could double tap the home button to pull up all your open apps. Long pressing each app would allow you to close the applications. How do I do that with the One as I am researching and reading that Task Killers are not worth using. Thanks.

After Ice Cream Sandwich everything became a lot easier. I reboot about once every other day to keep it optimized.

This phone is pretty slim on the bloatware. I haven't gotten rid of anything really although HTC apps like HTC Watch would be the first to go if I started to feel the need. The other thing is you can disable apps that you don't use, via the App Management section. Just see what you use and don't use and start paring it down but you may find you don't really need to with this phone.

Thanks for the response. So basically, the phone somewhat "self optimizes" and closes out apps when needed; say when an intensive game is launched? I also will reboot a phone once every other day or so. I am assuming that clears some of the cache? Do I need to manually clear application cache? I am glad to see that some of the tedious things are getting easier such as not having to rely on a task killer. Thanks for the reply.

Any other optimization tips to keep the phone speedy? I don't plan on rooting it, overclocking etc, etc.

Just make sure that Fast Boot is turned off under the Power setting so that it completely clears the cache.

If a resource hog is launched it does self-manage but you can always hit the home button twice and get to the multi-tasking menu where you can flick the offender off, er, away.

thank you much. So Fast Boot should be "unticked" then correct? It currently is unticked and I will keep it that way if that is what clears the cache during shut down. As silly as it sounds, I didn't know about double clicking home to flick away open apps. I am very grateful for the forums as I have been able to jump to the Android platform and quickly acclimate to the OS. So far this phone is exceeding my expectations. Thanks again.
