What do I do to have my texts always open in full screen?

When I receive a floating text notification, I open it and it is never fullscreen. It's diminished size requires several steps to enlarge it and/or send it because the text box is so small and the smiley icons make me go back to the list of new and old messages and open it again from there. Just to send.
I've looked everywhere I can think of and can't seem to find the solution.

What device do you have?

What app are you using for messages?

When you say you have floating messages are they floating bubbles, floating boxes or something else? Depending on the app there may be options for detail level that would offer bigger or more detailed message popups, reducing the need for so many steps.

Did it used to be different? If so how long ago did it change? Was it after an update?
