You have to be rooted of course, which you already are so that's not a problem. I would recommend upgrading to the latest version of clockworkmod if you haven't already. You'll need CM7 of course (the stable version of the latest nightly, your choice) and the gapps package. Do a full wipe, flash CM7, flash the gapps package, and enjoy. I would also recommend using the latest version of Incredikernel as it has greatly helped with my battery life, and if you don't like the stock camera you can always use the MIUI camera, but those things are strictly optional.

1. Root - Check
2. ClockworkMod Recovery - Hopefully Check
3. Download CM7 Stable or Nightly Release from Rom Manager
4. Get Kernel Manager, theres a free and paid-for version, get the latest kernel from Tiamat. Light to moderate use on my stock HTC battery is yielding 20-30 hours.

Just jump into it man and let the customization begin!!!

It actually took me a while to get everything set the way I wanted it because there are sooooo many options.

If you come across problems post up in the CM7 nightly thread (its the one that is like 15million posts and counting). Pvillecomp, zero neck, Dark Wizard, even Ssethv (i know he misses it) are usually around to give a quick response.

Download Rom Manager and update your recovery to 3.0.0.8

Then DL the latest CM7 stable + GAPPS (place in root of SD)

reboot to recovery - go to HBOOT choose recoverty

-wipe data/factory reset
-Advanced > Wipe dalvik cache
-Install zip from SD

Choose the lastest CM7 stable version, right after it completes flash GAPPS and reboot. First boot may take some time.

I'd probably flash the file I attached in recovery for a better wipe. But make sure it erases everything. I don't believe your phone will boot if you flash the file I attached since it removes everything.

Don't forget to BACKUP!

1. Backup of your current working ROM via ClockworkMod (just in case anything goes wrong)
2. Titanium Backup of all your Apps and their settings
3. Backup any SMS messages you want to keep.
4. Backup your contacts (unless you solely use google as your address book)
5. Backup your SD card (just in case anything goes wrong!)

I would also recommend doing EVERYTHING (wipe & flashing) in Recovery. I have never had a problem since I started doing it manually.

Download all the files via your phone (they will end up in SD Card/Download). Probably best to start with stable, backup, and then play with nightlies
CM7 CyanogenMod Mirror Network - Powered by TDRevolution
Gapps Latest Version/Google Apps - CyanogenMod Wiki

In ClockworkMod Recovery
Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache
Advanced/Wipe Battery Stats
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Install Zip from SD Card - Flash CM7, then immediately flash Gapps WITHOUT rebooting
Reboot

Giggle when you see the new bootanimation
Wait
First boot takes a while, don't freak out!

I am jumping on the CM7 bandwagon aswell tonight. Looks like we'll be taking the jump together, best of luck!

What is the latest Incredikernel. I have 2.6.37.4-cyanogen+slayer@homebrew #27.
If this isn't the latest where can I get it and do I have to wipe before installing it.

What your running now is the kernel that comes with Cyanogenmod. The latest version of Incredikernel is 4192011, but beta 8 is available as well. You can get them over at XDA, and you might want to wipe dalvik cache before you install, but you don't have too.

Android Version 2.3.3 would be Gingerbread? Just want to make sure I download the right one.

Well, do we have CM7 loaded up yet? :) I've been using it on my Sprint Hero for a while now and it's great. Currently using another AOSP ROM but always find myself going back to CM.

When you say flash the Google Apps without rebooting how will these be flashed? Same way as the ROM is?

Ok well CM7 is just about done downloading. Going the manual way since that seems more popular than using ROM manager. Here goes nothing!

Thank you everyone for all the help. i just have one more question, which rom is the most stable but still up to date for cm7?
