What do other OS's have against android?

I absolutely hate apple products so I'm not talking about ios. I'm mainly talking about webos and wp7. These are two os's that are trying to make there way into the smart phone world that android and ios control. I love android, but what are some features that these two os's have that android lacks?

The way that webOS handles multitasking and task-switching is vastly superior to the way Android does it. Like, night and day. If it weren't for Palm and (now) HP being so terrible at getting webOS onto decent hardware in a timely fashion, I would be using it still. Instead, I'm just hoping against hope that Android catches up someday.

The iPhone is a great phone for what it is. Millions of people are happy with it and that's great. But it's not for me. I need the freedom to do as I wish with the phone. The widgets, ROM's and choice is all what keeps me on Android.
Well said! My thoughts exactly!

I don't plan on loading ROMs. I decided to switch to Android because I enjoy Google Products. Is that a crazy reason to switch?

I only use gmail. I love Google Voice, Maps, Talk, Sync, Calendar. Etc

No one does email, contacts and calendars as well as Blackberry.
Especially out of the box with no add ons.
I'm assuming you are referring to exchange, and there you'd probably be correct.
I must say though, for someone like me who uses google cal and contacts heavily, android has given me by far and away the best user experience when it comes to handling calendar and contacts.

That is a perfect reason to switch to android. I mean for me if I heavily use MS products and services such Hotmail, Windows Live, Zune & X Box: I would be using a WP7 phone. :)

No not crazy at all! That was a major factor in my leap to android as well.

Nope, same here as well. That was one of the biggest selling points for me with the original Droid. It's integration with Google services as a HUGE seller for me.

I was actually reluctant to go to Android because of that. As good as their programs are, I was hesitant to give my life to Google, so to speak.

I know this might come off sounding like I'm calling you out personally but please know I"m not :D . I just mean this as a general statement...I've heard people use that "I don't want Google knowing everything about me" argument against android and against google in general...the funny thing is that with some of those people, as soon as they got done giving me that lame excuse, they went back to telling the entire internet/world what they were doing via facebook and twitter!

Hahaa I know what you mean.

I just wasn't sure I wanted to get myself locked into the Google ecosystem. It's not really a privacy thing...just a potential for over-dependence.

True...if Google suddenly went belly up I"d be in a world of hurt! :'(

I really like the whole ecosystem, as you put it. Just one example of that: We're on vacation in FL right now. Before we left (drove from Chicago), I had been looking up our hotel addresses and some other stops on my laptop using Google maps. I had printouts from the reservations, etc, but wanted to get distances and driving times. Well due to Chicago's winter weather, we ended up leaving a half day earlier than planned, and I never had time to get all that written down or put in my phone. When we got to our first rest stop, I started typing in the hotel address on my phone, and as soon as I'd put in the first couple of numbers, it pulled up the whole address from my Maps search history. To me that's awesome! I do realize it would freak the snot out of some people..."Oh google knows everyhting about my life!" Little do people realize that when they use the internet, all that info is out there, pretty much forever.

So my opinion is, if it's going to be saved on some server out there anyway, why not use google and have it working in my favor! Do I care if google knows that I'm going out to dinner with my wife? Not at all, especially if the google ads shows me a coupon to save money with :-$

So anyways, that's way off of originial topic, but that's my .02 on Google.

This is a really good way to describe choosing a phone these days. You don't just choose the phone, but the ecosystem as well. I currently have a launch month Palm Pre, and while my Pre has held up well and done everything I've needed it to up until now, the WebOS ecosystem has failed me. So here I am at Android, learning what it can do. I don't even have an Android phone yet, I'm deciding on the ecosystem first.

The best thing about android is having a first gen device( in my case a backflip) and having it run a modern OS (2.2 And soon 2.3) via cyanogenmod and having run very fast too. Not many other OS' have that

Could not agree with you more. A smartphone ecosystem is becoming one of the main ways companies differentiate their products from their competitors.

But you have to remember other OS' do not have custom skins and other OS's are not fragmented enough. So, the point is Cyanogen is mainly out there because the whole update process with Android is a fault. But I am still a huge fan of Android don't call me a fan boy. :p
