What Google services are turned off in safe mode? [S6 edge]

A

AC Question

I have a Samsung s6 edge and have been experiencing poor battery life. I contacted Samsung and they said to put the device in safe mode to see if it is the battery that is bad. After putting the phone in safe mode I've had crazy long battery life. I'm at 50% 23 hours later with little to moderate use with wifi/4g on. Once the phone dies I'll put it back in normal mode, I just want to see how long it'll go in safe mode.

I will start to delete unused apps to see if that helps, but I'm wondering if safe mode turns off any Google services that I should be aware of before I start deleting a bunch of apps. Plus I really don't want to delete all the apps I've downloaded, might as well just leave it in safe mode until I need to use Netflix or something.

Re: What Google services are turned off in safe mode?

Welcome to Android Central! My understanding is that Safe Mode disables any app that wasn't preinstalled. So if you installed a Google app yourself, that would be disabled in Safe Mode.

Here's what I usually suggest to help troubleshoot poor battery life: Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

Re: What Google services are turned off in safe mode?

Ok, I'll get you the screenshots within the next couple days. I'm really interested to see how long my phone will last on safe mode haha

The strangest thing I experience with my battery, when the phone is in normal mode, is when it's just sitting on my desk at work it drains fast. It'll go from 100% at 6:00am to around 50% by 11-12:00, and that's just sitting there, screen off, just sitting there. I do keep wifi/4G, GPS and bluetooth on but that's to stay connected with notifications and I have a smartwatch which requires bluetooth. GPS could be turned off, but I doubt that is what is killing my battery. Hard to believe GPS could make my battery drain 50% in 6 hours from 20 hours when it's turned off in safe mode. I will say that in the battery screen it shows Android system, Android OS and bluetooth being the top battery eaters. Maybe the Marshmallow update will help with some of this whenever Verizon decides to push that...

Anyway I'll be back in a day or two with screenshots showing the battery screens.

Thanks

Oh, by the way, make sure you post those battery stats running in normal mode, not Safe Mode. We want to see if there's any 3rd party app that's using an inordinate amount of battery.
