What happened to my 'Download' folder on my phone?

I have a Galaxy 4 and I only recently noticed this has been happening. I went into my gallery and was surprised to see that the entire 'Download' folder was gone! I've absolutely no clue where it went. I checked the 'Downloads' and I can see everything I've downloaded. I can click on any of them and still see them but when I go to see if the folder is in my Gallery I can't find them. The same happens when I go through the 'My Files' on my phone. I download most things to my phone, not my sd card so they show up all fine under my device. But even then there is no proof they are in my gallery. I thought maybe if I went on my browser and just real quick downloaded a picture the folder would pop back up again, but still to no avail! Can someone help me out here?

Welcome to Android Central! Is there a file called ".nomedia" in the Downloads folder? The presence of this file would instruct the Media Scanner to ignore the whole folder when looking for photos to include in the Gallery.
