What happened to split screen?

I have a Nokia 6.1

I used to hold the box icon to split the screen horizontally to view two apps at once in 8.1.

Now it doesn't do that. I didn't use it often. But it was very useful when I do use it.

Here's how it works on my Pixel.

Open one of the apps. Swipe up from the home button for the multitasking menu (or tap your multitasking button). Long-press on the app icon at the top of the app window you had open, select split screen then select the second app.
